First off, I never said that the Hotel was a dump. I can not remember complaining in this thread about noisy drunk mongers nor air conditioning that did not work. I never mentioned having a problem with bell- boys or front desk clerk. What I did say was is that when I am paying for both myself and my Chica to stay at the Hotel Presidente, I except common courtesies. It is wrong for the Hotel to refuse seating based on what one person is wearing. Particularly when some fat Gringa has less on and nothing is said to her. THAT IS MY POINT

The story below only Reinforces my point...
Quote:
The policy at the News Café in the Hotel Presidente became known Wednesday when an owner of A.M. Costa Rica and one of the company's lawyers, both female, tried to sit at the bar to discuss business. The bartender said he would not serve them and said the hotel was trying to cut down on prostitutes.

I have to wonder what type of glowing review these two Business Profession’s would have write about the Hotel….that is if they had been staying there. I do not think it would be such a glowing a review as I see here in this thread. I quess only myself and these ladies experienced the Hotels Rudeness, and felt it was wrong.

Are you saying your chica was a registered & paid long term guest and still hassled?

Paco,
You're nit-picking again.

Personally I am a long-time advocate of the Hotel Presidente. It offers me what I want in a hotel. I will be there again over Labor Day.

BUT, I believe a paying guest should be able to bring in anyone that he wishes to his room or the restaurant or the sports bar regardless of how she's dresses AS LONG AS IT IS NOT OBSCENE based on the local customs.

If you sit on the rail for any length of time you will see many women of all ages wearing tank tops with V-necks and uncoverd shoulders, arms and some tummy. How the Prez can consider this "inappropriate" in that climate and with that culture is beyond me.

As to their long-standing policy of not allowing women to solicit men on premises I can completely understand that. They are running a hotel with a nice restaurant that caters to local business people as well as their guests. I would not want the Prez to turn into a Del Rey.

I hope the AM Costa Rica debacle will get the attention of management and there is some training done to all the Prez staff so there is no misunderstandings when I get back there.

But I'll reserve further judgement until the situation arrises in Aug/Sept. Then watch out.

Paco:
That is exactly what I am saying.. I went the extra mile and registered her as a guest, and paid for that pleasure, only to have the security guard hassle her every time she either came or when. The one and only time that she went into the News Café, we had the discussion on what is and isn’t proper attire for the restaurant. In the beginning, I blew it off, but after the restaurant incident, it became apparent that she was being singled out. I am not here to dispute whether The Hotel Presidente is or is not a Great Hotel. Hands down, it is…. But it is what is written in the article by the two Professionals is the same shit that we had to put up with for the entire two week stay, minus the three days in Flamingo.

Igualmente... :P
PS: If you want to rip into me, go ahead...
The Hotel is still wrong for their BS!

I wasn't nitpicking just wondering if she was in fact a registered guest staying long term and the hotel was being paid for such. This is not the first report of chica guests staying long term with a gringo yet being repeatedly hassled. The employees should be more aware of who the registered guests are and not harrass them.

No ripping from me Ig, I like the hotel also but have no reason to defend them or their pain in the ass policy. Also be aware of the fact (if I'm not mistaken) that I was the first CRT to ever post anything about the dress code almost a year & a half ago after my chica was denied entry by one of the security guys. This was the first I, or anyone else apparently had heard of any dress code and I certainly did more than my fair share of bitching about it. My chica had been to the hotel a half dozen times before that with me and the whole incident was an embarassment and surprise to her as well. A year later the mgmnt. finally posted their policy and reasons for it. Supposedly the dress code has been around for a couple years but only strictly enforced the last 6 months or so.

Paco,
What I meant by nit-picking (probably a bad choice of words) was that in my opinion it shouldn't make any difference if a girl is registered there or not.

If she is in the company of, or meeting a registered guest there, it shouldn't be any of the Presidente's business how she is dressed as long as it's not obscene based on local customs and standards. If she is with the guy in the cafe it still shouldn't be any of their business.

As long as a girl is not actively soliciting customers the Presidente staff should mind their own business. But I know they will still try and dictate who comes in to their hotel.

We'll see how this all plays out soon.

Paco: what you say is exactly what happened to me. When I come, to San Jose, I have always stayed at the Presidente and have always had her register right along with me as a guest. We have registered together several times now, and I feel that they should at least start to recognize us. She dresses very nice, nothing out of the ordinary, typical Chica fashion, but nothing hanging out. And she still gets hassled. Now this is the reason that I registered her just so she would not get hassled. The only reason I said anything about ripping me, is that the Presidente is a very good hotel, and I felt possibly that some of the other members might take offense to my ragging on the Prez I only felt what was written was exactly what had happen to me.

No offense intended…Ig

Igualmente,

Thanks for posting that article, and I am glad to see you and others are finally realizing the Prez does not deserve our business. I said from the beginning of their new policy that it would end up like this and I am sorry to see that I was right.

I'd much rather see a sexy young chica from the Del Rey in the restaurant than some fat ass chick with tits hanging out. But the point, really, is that they should not take it upon themselves to keep out working girls WHEN THEY ARE ACCOMPANIED BY MEN unless MAYBE they were wearing something really obscene, such as their ass or nipples showing.

The Prez will never get my business again unless they change this policy and I encourage others to follow suit.

There are some really quiet rooms at the Morazan and it's even more convenient and cheaper, especially if you buy the Tico Times and use the coupon there for a discount.

I wish they would keep their rooms up better (good working plumbing, mostly is the problem) but my solution is to check the plumbing thoroughly before I agree to stay in the room, and if it's not good ask for another. If they say there is no other I will back out of the deal and go elsewhere, like maybe the Amon or ?

To tell you the truth, I have mixed feelings about just abandoning the Hotel Presidente and moving on just because of a misguided dress policy. After the incident in the News Café, and the management’s refusal to enact the same dress code policies to all guest, I find myself looking else where for accommodations. I know it will be difficult to find another Hotel with as many comforts as the Prez. I do not just mean just a working AC or a maid that left extra towels. More like being able to set at the rail in the early morning, and enjoy the sights, or as someone put it earlier, The Sports bar is very nice to find a late night snack or to catch the Big Game, but when a registered quest is refused seating because of someone else Moral Views, well then it’s time to move on...reluctantly though
No telling what I'll find out there....

Hey...They tell me there a New Band @ the SL...

Ig... :P
