As a follow-up I received two very nice PMs from Bill, the owner of Sportsmens Lodge.

Bill was very gracious and appreciated my feedback. He stated that while business is good he knows that any drop in quality will affect his bottom line. He appreciates our business and our feedback.

He is indeed a gentlemen, a professional and a class act. Anyone who has not had the pleasure to stay at or at least visit the Sportsmens Lodge owes it to themselves to do so.

While you're there introduce yourself to Bill and be sure and tell him you are a CRT member. He runs a top-flight operation and deserves our support.

And no, he did not offer me a discount on a room to post this.

I also receved a PM from Bill inquiring as to my issues.

Bill is indeed a fine gentlemen and a great host.

He was genuinely concerned about my issues and thanked me for bringing them to his attnetion, he agreed with me that things do not run as smoothly when he is off premises, but I believe that is to be expected.

I believe Bill is entitled to a little time off especially after a long memeorial day weekend, which is when I arrived.

Like Wit, I was not offered any add'l discount for this Post.....

While I have never stayed at the SL, I make a point of visiting each trip to have a drink/bite to eat.

sometimes I bring little darlings along with me, especially if they have never been there, to show them what a gem of an establishment the SL represents.

And I can truly say that Bill is a great guy. the kind of dude you'd want for company whether in a foxhole or the SL or anything in between.

Also, all the little darlings that know Bill and that I've had conversations with, tell me that he treats them with great respect and compassion.

this is not always easy with any woman, much less than with some of the little darling drama queens of CR.

Hats off to ya Bill.

now, go do something about some of those slow shower drains before El Ciego has a fit!

(ps. I was offered a discount of 100 colones on the prior days copies of La Nacion often found in the lobby area for this endorsement)

As the above posts indicate, sometimes it's easy to take things for granted a bit and forget what a great thing we have going with Sportsmen's. The hotel truly provides an environment and atmosphere which is unique in San Jose and perfectly suited for our purposes. For me, staying elsewhere on several previous trips really put this fact into stark relief. Sure, there are other places where the rooms might be cheaper (Castillo), or better appointed (the new rooms at the Pres), or be more convenient to "Ground Zero" - but when everything is taken into consideration, as far as I'm concerned, Sportsmen's is still IT.

Thanks to Bill and staff for making this all possible. The hotel's success is well-deserved.

I stayed in the old Presidential suite before,
first room on the right as you walk in.
This was great when you brought back guests,
and all the girls loved the room(s).
The porno channel was also a big hit with a couple girls.
Anyway, I really enjoyed my stay there, with the
exception of the noise. Being right by the reception
area you can hear everything going on there,
and of course the pitter patter of feet going up and
down the hall, not to mention customers at the bar.
I wouldn't ming staying at the SL again, but I'm just
not comfortable with the reports of noise, even in
the new wing.
I didn't see Bill this past week when I came by for
lunch twice. I was hoping to show a newbie some
of the rooms, but didn't feel comfortable asking
the front desk. I'm sure it wouldn't have been a
problem, just my thing, since I know Bill.
For the money, Amon Plaza is a great alternative,
though I haven't stayed at the Castillo yet,
perhaps next trip.

I have been considering staying at the SL on my next trip down but this thread has convinced me I'm better off where I usually stay due to the noise reports mainly but the price of the room and cost of taxis and time involved shuttling back and forth with girls since I usually average at least 3 a day.

However, I will definately be stopping by to check out the bar and lobby this next trip.

Since last February's Super Bowl Party, I have made 5 trips to CR and I've stayed in the Sportmen's Lodge four times.

My first night last February (Saturday) was spent at 1st floor room at Casa Vino because there were no rooms available at the SL until Sunday night.

I did not particularly care much for the accessibility factot to the room at Casa Vino.... hell, you open the door and your next step is on the sidewalk. But as far as noise, the only thing that was of any serious concern was the street traffic.

Regarding my stay at the SL, I was in the Belleza room which is right next to the kitchen and very close to the atrium side of the bar. Not the quietest of rooms. However, I did not hear any music coming from the Penthouse.

My second stay at the SL was for eight days (Sat thru Sun) to celebrate my 60th BD and I was roomed in Ilusiòn. The noise from the bar and the traffic up and down the new wing hallway did indeed bother me quite a bit and was very distracting whenever I was being entertained. And if you open the curtain to the glass window you can see who is sitting at the computer station.

On Thursday, I was moved from Ilusiòn to Mirador and that was when the noise really became a problem. As Wit pointed out, the room is right at the base of the door to the Penthouse and the music feels as if it is right outside your door. Also, I echo Wit's remark about the pitter patter of female high heels going up and down the stairs.

And then on Saturday I was moved to Amor... and the only I remember about that little room is that Valeria and I broke the bed before I left Sunday morning.

On my next stay at the SL I was fortunate enough to stay in Amante which is a little more spacious room and provides some type of acoustic advantage because the noise was less noticeable. And IMHO, the bathroom is nicer.

For my last stay at the SL, I was one of the guilty parties who decided to enjoy Latin Music at all times and volume levels on the excellent sound system the facility provides. I know it is an inconvenience and a nuisance for others, but it is also a feature we are paying a pretty penny for and therefore expect to enjoy it whenever and however we want.

And if Bill is reading this, I and one of our distinguished guests would like to suggest that a couple of speakers be installed in the Jacuzzi room. That way there would be no necessity to elevate the music volume so it can be heard in the Jacuzzi area.

The front desk staff, the bartenders, the cooks, and especially the maintenance personnel at the SL are top notch and Bill has always been a most gracious, entertaining, and elegant host. He will do whatever he can to accomodate and meet your needs as soon as he is aware of them. He has great contacts to obtain tee times for those who want to hit the links, and he will sit with you and chat about everything and anything. He has been a class act, but I pesonally feel that he needs to reinstate the close operational supervision he has always been known for.

It is also an added feature to find available entertainment sitting right outside your door or just down the stairs... waiting for you and at a fair and just price. But, as Wit mentioned, one can indeed feel a little peculiar having to walk through the bar with your entertainment in tow. If she is a great looker it is great to show her off... but if it is a mercy ph*ck... then it can be a bit ackward, specially when other CRTs who have sessioned with the chica are sitting at the bar notice her.... and you.

Lastly, my stays at the SL have been both enjoyable and very entertaining. I've made very good friends there and I'll never forget how they (specifically Mendobrew, Frank1942,and Bill and his wonderful lady) helped me celebrate the BIG 60! You guys are THE BEST!
