LVSteve makes a very good point.
The more previously "Chica friendly" hotels
push us out, the hotels that are left will
most likely jack up room rates,
i.e. supply and demand.
Hopefully I won't have any issues in
July with the Presidente.
But if I do, it will be the Del Rey, or Sportsmens Lodge
for me on a future trip.

No worries Circus, I enjoy your Story's. I wasn't really sure if you typed it on purpose or not. Maybe me pointing that out will help some people to "get it".

I'm gonna miss the Amon plaza.

That may result in the opposite of what they want to happen. If they raise rates, people may just prefer to pay the chica fee if the rate+ fee is somewhat similar with the the jacked up rates.

Personally, if I wanted to stay at a hotel that insituted a chica fee and I decide to switch to one of the chica-friendly hotels and then find out that they jacked up the rates, I'd prefer to stay in my desired hotel and just pay the fee out of spite.

I personally would just rather stay at the Hotel Presidente and have a jacket handy for the chica. I hate throwing away extra fees for a visitor. A $25 fee is way over the line for me.

We complain about the "cien" but don't have a problem giving away extra money for a room for which we've already paid....whats with that? How can we beat the $51 standard room rate at the Prez with breakfest and no chica fee?

You'll see me again at the Prez in October! Look for me in the master suite!

$25 chica fee is a RIPOFF!!!

We'll see about that come September and October once the tree huggers have left and the rooms are empty. In business, money ALWAYS comes before principles/ethics.

I don't know Orange, a couple years ago the seasonal thing used to make a difference but now it seems flights and hotels stay full pretty much year round. May thru Sep. is the rainy season right, why the expected slowdown in Sep. & Oct.? I'm usually there Labor Day and Halloween and it's busy as ever. We used to look forward to airfares dropping in May/June, maybe not this year... :?

Of course I would prefer to stay at the Presidente,
and perhaps I am looking at the glass half empty,
instead of half full. However, I am somewhat concerned
about the way the Presidente dress code is being
implemented. Several members have reported
ladies not being allowed entry, either P4P ladies,
or just an office worker, because of bare shoulders or
mid-drift showing. Sure, one can carry a jacket around
(in 90 degree weather), or keep one in your room,
but what's next, too much make-up, too many ear rings,
too much perfume, heels are too high?
That is the problem I see with a very vague dress policy.
I have no problems with a dress code dealing with
tits hanging out, or having half her ass showing, but come on,
having mid-drifts and shoulders covered...damn.

I'm going to miss the Amon Plaza, that was a nice quite
hotel to stay at.

Yes, paying a chica fee sucks, but I would rather give
big John $10, and not have to worry about what my
guest is wearing. I assume the Del Rey still has $59
a night economy rooms. And of course we still have
the Sportsmens Lodge, with no chica fee, and Bill
doesn't seem to have any issues with what the ladies wear.
I've never stayed at the hotel Castillo, guess I should
add them to my list as well.

I wonder if the recent implementation of the chica fee at the Amon Plaza comes from some corporate order from on high.

As a brand, Clarion Hotels are well-known and respected worldwide. If only one disgruntled gringa tree-hugger was "confronted" by the presence of a working girl at the Amon Plaza, the one letter she writes could prompt a corporate memo to the Amon Plaza's manager...voila! $25.00 chica fee.

We must remember that the vast majority of self-righteous tree-hugger types are also misguided feminists (it goes with the profile). Also, families who travel to C.R. to see monkeys and volcanoes would want to shield their offspring from encounters with the seamy side of San Jose. As tourism continues to boom in Costa Rica, "chica-friendly" hotels will become as rare as the quetzal.

I honestly believe that we will see a day when the Presidente is no longer chica-friendly. We are a minority among C.R. tourists, and the hotels will always set policies that benefit their business.

A good question is “who owns the property”? Does the casino owns the property and leases to Clarion or does Clarion own the property and lease to the casino operators?

If it is the former of the two, it’s a good bet that Clarion will change this policy or loose their lease. If it’s the latter of the two, the casino will put pressure on Clarion to adjust the terms of the lease due to lost revenue (eco-tourists do not spent much in casinos) and this will present Clarion with an interesting financial decision. If by chance the property is owned by a third party…the casino will win hands down. Hotel operators are a dime a dozen, but a casino license/operator is worth gold.

Me…I welcome Hotel M, and will give it a shot …

Just my dos colones…

Mendo

My understanding is that the Hotel leases the casino property to the casino people. (LV Steve would be better on this one) Judging how little business the Casino does,my guess is that they will close in the near future. They even stopped the Blackjack Tournies on Sat nights for lack of attendance.
