I would also invest in something like that...for sure! BTW, a few months ago I had heard that the asking price for the HDR was 30 million. Supposedly this figure included the Monkey bar , Del Mar rest. , & Key Largo. Anyone heard the same?

It's all about connections. It would probably take five years for someone to get all the approval necesary to compete with the DR. And even though they are money grubbers, I still like the place for people watching and talking to the bartenders. And they do run a professional operation, so I'm not slamming the operation entirely. In fact I'm heading in there now to have a beer and see if there are any honies during the day or just the beasts I saw yesterday.

On my last trip, I was talking to a bunch of guys about improving competition in SJ. HDR has - with little exception - a total monopoly.
We have 5,000+ members on this board. It seems very realistic that we could hire lawyers and develop an investment syndicate.

I may not know what I'm talking about but would the existing monopoly just let some competition come in and set up shop nearby? Not likely, their deep pockets can pay off a lot of local politicians with the power to prevent it from ever happening.

Do not think they bought and tore down  Happy Days :D and the Old New York bar :D because they welcomed competition. :P

YO Big Spenders:

If you were to ever have 25 to 30 million bucks you would be wise not to ever entertain the idea of buying an establishment that probably has seen it's better days. Not to mention the ever changing laws, political powers, legal nightmares and of course the actual running of the properties owned by the DR owners. It sounds rather inviting on the outside but that's because many of you observe it from a customer's side. The hotel's rooms and suites are in serious need of renovation and furnishings. Not to mention a number of their "independent contractors" need to go on a low carb diet and have a face renovation.

With that amount of serious cash one could have the best of worlds and not have to worry about running anything.......except their own life style.
