They are still charging $10, but don't worry they will drop it as soon as they can. Problem is once they drop it our kind will no longer be welcome.

I know nobody likes to pay chica fees but $10 is doable.

F the Taormina. I don't even know why anybody goes to that place since there are lots better places to hang out at. The Taormina is the last place I would visit while in San Jose.

I'm going to say the Coca Cola district at night, and the "Tranny-corner", ave 7 and calle 5, at night, should be the last places you should visit in San Jose, make that hotel (and their very mediocre yet pricy Italian food) the third last place you visit, lol...

I remember back in the glory days when I was vacationing here and always stayed at the HDR and paid the $11 visitor fee, the guys who taunted me for paying it were still paying $30 or $40 a night or more for their hotel rooms over my cheap HDR ($60 to $70) per night, and I didn't have to pay for taxi's, drinks, etc., running around at night looking for love.

It was right there waiting for me, convenient, available, $11, elevator ride up, I didn't see it as a big problem after spending thousands on air travel, hotel, dining out, misc travel expenses...

When I was there about a month ago (January 2021), the Taormina bar was the best of the gulch bars as far number and quality of women. This was due to their disregard of the 25% capacity restrictions that the folks at the Sportsmens strictly adhered to (I was staying at the SL). I am curious how things stack up now between the Taormina, the SL and the Castillo bar now that things are at 50%.

And a $10 fee would not be a deal killer for me at the Taormina if I got a good rate on the room. The last time I stayed there I paid $63 plus tax for one of the remodeled rooms and that included a pretty good breakfast when I booked it in conjunction with my delta flight. I much prefer the atmosphere of the SL and the Castillo but you can sometimes get a pretty nice room deal at the Taormina.

That said, my next trip in early April, I am staying at the Castillo as they gave me a pretty decent room rate with the all inclusive an round trip transport to Jaco for $70 as well as free transport back to the airport from the Castillo.

Screw the Taormina, why would anyone pay $10 to bring up a lady?? I mean you are already a guest there.. only a sucker would do that! there are many other hotels that would welcome our business and NOT gouge us.
It's not the $10 but the principle behind it, and you guys that pay it are part of the problem. I have been going to SJ for over 10 years and have never paid a cent to bring a lady. I've stayed at SL, Crown Plaza, Sheraton, and many other hotels and have never paid the hotel "extra" for the privilege of bringing a lady to my room.
Back when Guy Grand ran the hotel I used to stay there and loved it..but NOT as long as the $10 chica fee is there..no way! again, it not the $10, it's the principle.

GarotaLover have to agree 100%. In all my years going to CR the only chica fee I paid, was to the chica herself. On average I was playing with 3-5 a day so that extra $$ made a big dent in my fun when I stayed for 3-4 weeks at a time. On the low end for 3 weeks at 3 per day that is $700.00 out of my pocket for nothing. Why should I give any establishment free money especially when I patronize their bars and resturants.

Not saying I like it. But there are very few hotels that want the type of business we are in. Any of the nicer hotels in centro San Jose either will not allow a guest (chica) or charge a high fee. In lots of them they simply do not allow guests. Holiday Inn, Sleep Inn, Balmoral, El Presidente, Gran Hotel...etc etc. Not saying you could not get away with it once in a while if the chica dresses modestly, etc. but if you ask about guests they will tell you what their policy is. The monger hotels of course are different.

And the issue with Taomina is that they simply do not want the business of mongers in the future. At the moment, yes, but in the long run no.

Remarkable to think that Hotel Presidente was the preferred hotel for many of us. The hotel even gave free keychains to those who presented a CRT card, during check-in.

Stayed at the Presidente many times and always enjoyed it, once their policy changed I quit going. My favorite place to stay though was HLH then Zona2 in the penthouse. Even had a bbq on the balcony one time.

I've stayed at the Castillo all week long and there are 10 to 15 ladies from about 5pm and later. And usually more ladies than men.

I think the extra fee is ridiculous. I used to stay at these hotels before they started this. Especially the Rey. This is just as stupid as the extra fees from the putas. 10 bucks extra for the puta fee, 10 bucks extra for bbbj, 10 extra for daty. Not counting the cost of the puta. WTF?

A gentle defense of the Taormina.
I have stayed at Taormina, multiple times since 2006. Then it was the Clarion, later Mona Lisa. I have had some great times there, can't remember any bad ones. I rarely stay anywhere else in San Jose. I plan on staying at El Castillo next time, just so I have someplace with which to make a comparison.
I may be different than most on this website, but I go for business/vacation and I like doing things besides the women (don't get me wrong, the ladies are a big plus). In this respect Taormina has always served my needs.
I like to get up early and walk around San Jose (as far as Monica's).
Taormina has a casino. I don't gamble, but I have been entertained by some who do. Having a casino means there is: an almost always open bank. Get dollars, colones, exchange money, etc. at all hours, at a reasonable exchange rate. Also unless they close the casino, I can't imagine they would ever draw too hard a line against chicas.
I tell people not to get a rental car, but I always get one. The Taormina has a parking garage underneath the hotel, available at all hours.
There is a somewhat over priced Italian restaurant attached. But weather permitting, for breakfast you can sit outside (elevated patio) and watch the world go by (people and cars). Food has been OK to good, (always happy with breakfast) just a little too expensive. I have gotten in late, and was able to get reasonable food and drink at the sports bar (not part of the restaurant).
But then again, next trip I will stay at El Castillo, just to check it out.
