Stayed in room 27 (Queen I think) at HLH last night. Everything was very clean, bed was quite comfortable and air conditioning was almost too good. The glass wall that allows a great view of the shower from the bed was an excellent touch. Towels looked a bit well used (threadbare) but served the purpose. Large television with cable however, CNN wasn't on the programmed channels but still available by manually going to channel 57. Large cabinet for clothes and hides the safe. Jeff was there after being absent a couple of days with the flu but not back to his normal, jovial self but still a GREAT host. I didn't spend any time in the bar but did enjoy the night's sleep after dinner, Del Rey and Le Grillion. Even parked my car in front of the hotel at 2am and all was just fine when I left at 8:45am this morning. That did have me worried, enough I didn't even leave the two concert tickets for Aerosmith I had bought earlier in the evening.

I stayed July 2nd - 8th. I was in room 25.

THERE WERE N O R O A C H E S !!!!!!! (or any other ickies either - place is clean)

My room was small, but I never felt cramped. It had a Queen bed (comfortable to sleep & phuck), a cabinet with 4 shelves & coat hanger) and a night stand.
There was no dresser or tabletop. I had to use the bed to work my laptop.
AC was over the bed. It had a sweep motion that I had to stop at night because it froze me when it blew straight down on me. The air was good volume and cold enough to cool the room in the daytime.
The ceiling fan had good circulation when the air was off (evening time for me).
Sheets were fine, but the quilt was old and ratty. Not that I used it, but still.
The towels were the lowest marks of the room. This doesn't bother me actually, but if you're going to nitpick, be specific. If towels are the most important thing to you, stay at the Holiday Inn. AT HLH you'll have no desire to steal them.
Room 25 has no window. This turned out to be an issue for me. When the lights are out, you cannot tell whether the day has started or not. I also did not have an alarm clock in the room. I didn't ask at the desk though, they probably would have brought one up.
The bathroom was modern and clean. Water was hot on demand.
25 is on the second floor. The stairs up are creaky as hell. Almost felt embarrassed creeping in with a chica at 2am.
While I'm on the subject of creaky, oil the damned bed in 25 as well. When you get to slamming horizontal I'd swear they could hear me from the DR. I had to turn em width-wise and do em into the mirror.

The area outside my room was a public sitting area with 2 chairs and a sofa. I actually sat here with 2 friends and one's girl. It was quieter than the bar, and perfect to have a nice chatter.
The bar is small and cozy. Has a personal feel to it. The bartenders I met were all friendly. Service is fast, and the food I had there was better than the usual bar grovel. The cooks know what they are doing. It's good stuff.
I got a chance to see the master suites available at HLH, and they were extremely nice. They were too much for me, but then I am only looking for a room to sleep & phuck. All else is extras to me.
The big bonus with HLH is the free session. Just keep in mind the work shift is roughly 11am to 5pm. As long as you'll be interested in sessioning there in those hours, you'll be set. For me, I was already gone from the hotel by 10, and never returned prior to sleep time.

I would stay here again without hesitation.

[edit] I want to mention the outside of the hotel. It's on a corner and easy to hail a cab. The two far corners hosted trannies at night, but they never crossed the street from what I saw, and I was never intimidated by them. I did have an altercation with one at Parque Espana, but never near the HLH. The area is safe enough for me. [/edit]

Old news? What is your definition of ages? I stayed there in February.. About 5 months ago.. There was a huge roach problem. There was someone that reported in April that the problem was still there.

So tell me.. when exactly was this fixed?

I've been reading about this particular bitch going back quite a bit, but no newer posts about it. Everyone asks, but no one comes forward to claim they've seen the issue any more.

I was there last week. I was there for a week, and I didn't see a single bug, dead or alive. I saw roaches at Mona Lisa in the outer area, and at SL in the pissroom. Not enough to make me complain, but then again it is the freakin tropics ... as long as they aren't carryin away the furniture, I tend to be a man about it.

I've been at HLH for the last 4 nights. I also have NOT seen a roach, dead or alive, anywhere in HLH since check-in on Monday . They may still be there (they've been around since the dinosaurs) , but they're not a problem at HLH for any reasonable-minded customer.

Hi Mike....

The last PM I got from you was on June 30. I replied 2 hours later.

I was in Quepos and Manual Antonio for 2 days and my tablet crapped-out, so I was out of touch for 2 days.

I'm back in SJ now. If you sent any other PM's, I didn't get them. Try a PM again. I always respond.

I hope we can hang again in the fall or winter.

I know that the tread was titled to only disscuss the room. I am going to give my thoughts about the HLH as a whole. If anyone minds I will edit to room info and start another thread.

I was in the Jr. Suite room 16 on the second floor, this is also the Cohiba suite. This is more of a penthouse suite that has access to an outdoor balcony if you want to smoke a nice cigar you can get from Bruce in the HLH cigar shop. THERE IS NO BUG PROBLEM! I did not see any bugs during my 4 nights stayed at this hotel.

This room is very spacious and has enough room for you, your baggage, and a big party. The room has a wet bar in the corner of the room, complete with sink and refrigerator. The room had a king size bed with a 36" Sony CRT TV, iHome iPod alarm clock radio, room safe in one of the two closets, and night stands on either side of the bed.

Bathroom was equipped with both a dry sauna with a clear window into the shower which also doubles as a wet sauna. The bathroom was also equipped with a bidet, a toilet and a sink. Towels and soap were well stocked throughout the trip and I only had to call for more soap once during my trip.

Bar and Kitchen, Bar staff was entertaining and could mix a could drink. Prices did not seem unreasonable and there was plenty of entertainment on the TVs. Jeff, an owner of the HLH, was a very sociable gentleman and was able to assist with getting vitamins on site. After being awake for 30+ hours to get to San Jose, this was a great convenience. Kitchen made good food, and I did not find the pricing overly high. I am used to traveling and spending much much more for food than what I was being charged at the HLH. I wish the kitchen opened earlier but if you like to sleep in you'll be fine.

The HLH CRT deal was a good deal. It included a 30 minute session each day and is a great way to start the day. :)

All in all I would recommend the property. It is a good place to lay your head and get laid.

Ricin

HLH still has a roach problem. Last time there I keep my clothes on the bed and run quickly to the shower..... But I will say the biggest roaches I ever saw were in the Dominican Republic. I think the biggest problem in HLH is that they have a lack of windows. Not one in the bar and many rooms that give you the feeling of being in an an interior room on a cruise ship.
