so I read a bunch of stuff... whats the deal with this place... has it recovered form a recent downturn? or is it on a downward spiral.
I am headed down in a few weeks.. looking for a nice place that wont show up like this
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... _Jose.htmlVery basic rooms with cheap and limited bedding, furnishings and supplies. Bathrooms are dirty. Continuous noisy stream of residents bringing hookers to the hotel. Next to a busy train line with noisy trains and horns 24x7.
The Amistad is a fine hotel, it was completely remodeled and the rooms are in great shape. It was a former mansion, so it has lots of character, no two rooms are exactly alike. Yes, it's not a Hilton or Four Seasons, so ignore those Trip Advisor a-holes who only want that and hate prostitution as well. Listen to the monger reports.

The trains can be a problem for those who are light sleepers and don't want any disturbance in the mornning. It never bothered me, I always was able to go back to sleep. Getting a room on the side farthest away from the tracks also helps a bit.
