So in my recent trip I decided to try out a handful of places other than my usual romps. For one, I always see Sportsman as my base. But I also stayed at the local AirBnB but it's not really chica friendly though if I'm quiet and discreet it's not a problem. That's not always ideal as I would have limitations.

I finally tried Castillo and loved it as well. The all-inclusive food is what really makes the value work. Room and environment is fine and I managed to find a flacca of my liking the one afternoon I was having lunch there. Still it's somewhat pricey for me.

So I stumbled upon Whiskey Barrel which is across the street from Castillo. It's not really obvious as a hotel and it looks like it's an old hotel that's being renovated. Lots of open spaces and not a lot people but the best part is that it's chica friendly as I had several appointments on my last day in CR. The room reminds me of Sportsman and had a decent bathroom. Anyway, I highly recommend it.

Do they have any on-site food service? Someone else posted about this place and sounds like a really good deal.

How is the noise there from the street or bar music? Any trouble going in and out at night with the gate? My usual cheap spot is Little Havana, but the music is so loud sometimes.

I stopped by there for a drink last time I was in town in November was definitely a place that I look forward to staying at in the future based on its general location. Do you know if they finished up the upstairs renovations yet?

I too stopped by Whiskey Barrel had few beers. I like the layout but according to the manager only one room had a king size bed, all the others have just full size bed. I believe he told me they had eight rooms for now. I will definitely swing by there next week when I come down to check it out.

I was at the bar at the Castillo about 8:30 on Thursday. I had worked remote that day and took a nap after work so at this time Kitchen was closed obviously, so I asked Ruth to order us 2 burgers with fries from whiskey barrel.

The cheeseburger was a double patty with a jumbo size bun, picture a whopper size bun, not 100% sure the name of the burger Ruth ordered, but my burger had some heat to it definitely some jalapeños on there. I believe she said it was the first option on the menu, I never saw a menu as she ordered over WhatsApp very well seasoned burger tho, the fries were shoestring style and cooked to a crisp, and they were the highlight of the meal lots of salt as well. This is a great food option late night if staying close and you’re hungry I will return. I think I’ll try a different burger not so spicy.

I did not check out the hotel walked in a side entrance and turned right towards the bar/restaurant area. The bar itself was rather small.

I was at the Whiskey Barrel last week, I ordered the whiskey barrel smash burger, it was the best burger in San Jose in my mind. It does had some heat to it and you don’t like hot do not order it. If you paid by CC it will show up as Pura Vida Dream hotel in your CC apps.FYI.

This time all the rooms(8) were occupy, that is a good news, my friends and I will definitely stay there in November hope more room are open up. it’s not my friends or I next return, but I already booked the hotel in May.
