Yeas ago, I stayed at the Dunn inn and the SL. What's the big place in town these days?

Sportsmens or Castillo are the best for lodging in downtown San Jose.

Del Rey is back open and remodeled. Taormina is nice and is the hot spot for the ticas.

Dunn Inn - Management has made the place guest unfriendly.

Sportsmens - Not really much change from the past but not as much chica traffic as you might have remembered. To me that isn't really a negative as I would rather go elsewhere to pick them up and bring them back. Rooms vary greatly between very basic to incredible luxury. CRT VIP gets you 10% off of room rates and food and beverage if you book through the hotel. Decent free breakfast and morning coffee. The food is good as always albeit a bit on the expensive side. Very good happy hour from 5 to 7 with 1K beers and discounted well drinks. Regular drink prices not outrageous unless you start buying shots of Patron or drink top (or medium) shelf whiskeys. Bar closes at midnight and sometimes earlier if no business.

Castillo - Rooms aren't great but I usually spend a little more and get one of the two King Balcony rooms. The all inclusive is a great deal if you do most of your eating and drinking at the hotel. Kitchen closes around 7:30.
Also includes a free ride back to the airport with a four night stay and free laundry (but tip the maid for doing it), free calls to the US and discounted transport to and from Jaco. The food is very good (IMO) but the menu is very small so it can get monotonous for a longer stay. Be advised that your drinks might be free but the bar prices when you buy a non guest a drink is pretty steep. Bar closes at 11pm.

Girl traffic used to be pretty good when the SL was strictly enforcing Covid restrictions but it has really decreased. Best time to find chicas there is from around 4 through dinner time though they are allowed to enter beginning at 1pm.

Taormina - Overall I like the rooms at the Taormina. They have a standard room and a little larger deluxe room and a couple of suites. Quality is similar to a Hilton Garden Inn and prices are pretty good. Check the hotel website and then something like booking.com. Probably the best place to hunt but I find they also have the most mercenary (and youngest) women overall. Girls hang out in the lobby, the casino and in the Sports Bar. I really hate the Sports bar as the music is oppressively loud and the drinks can get expensive if you drink liquor and I have heard they have pulled some shenanigans with bar tabs but it has never happened to me. My advice is pay for drinks as they are served. The bar stays open very late depending on the crowd size.

There is a fee to take a guest to your room but enforcement doesn't seem to be that consistent.

Food is good in the bar and the attached restaurant but last time I looked there was not an included breakfast.

Del Rey - I stayed in the Del Rey one time back in the mid-2000s and left after two days and never stayed there again. Rooms were basic and somewhat pricey and housekeeping wasn't that great. I hear there are some suites that are supposed to be nicer but I've never seen one. They have a strictly enforced elevator fee for guests and I heard it was raised to $20. I would call to verify as that can really add up.

The food at the Del Mar has always been pretty good but pretty expensive. The Sunday brunch was excellent.

The bar traffic is starting to liven up but on my last trip I found it really didn't start to get busy until around 10:30pm or so but it is open 24 hours if you get desperate early in the morning. Bar prices are very reasonable. Flor de Cana with coke was 2K and I think beers were 1.5K. They have started to make you pay after each drink ordered I believe to eliminate all of the issues they had in the past with people complaining about padded bills. Hotel guest might still be able to run a tab but I wouldn't know.

Good summary, Harddrive, Thank you. Sportsmans has started to charge bank for laundry so that’s a plus for Castillo. Also La Amistad used to have free laundry as I remember.

Hotel Del Rey is the best.

A lot of people on here will say sportsmen only because they are the main sponsors and supporters of this forum.

I went to sportsmen they had 5 women compared to Hotel Del Rey which had 100+ women.

Most people here are not looking for Marriott or four seasons…we are looking for action and hotel Del Rey is number one ground zero.

Hello,

I totally agree with you. I had a great experience during my stay at the hotel.
