Steven1 never posts anymore, so Rudy must have meant a lot to him, as to all of us...

I remember the last time that I stayed at La Amistad.. I had a half of a liter of Kettle One left (that Karol had stashed for me at the bar) I was waiting for Michael or Jonathan to take me to the airport. I had Karol make me a very large (to go) White Russian and I asked Rudy if he would like one. He had never had one before and he seemed to really like it. I have said it before.. and I will say it again... One of the very best things about our shared hobby, is the (sometimes very) special friends that we make along the way!

Rodolfo was a true class act. I remember one time after checking out of HLA he ran outside to catch me as I was getting into the taxi to the airport. As he knocked on the taxi window I thought "Uh oh... did I forget to pay something?"

Turns out he noticed I had overpaid. I handed him several $100 bills to pay my tab and 2 of them were stuck together. Instead of pocketing the inadvertent $100 "tip", he made sure to return it. I was so surprised and grateful I gave him a tip! (not the cien though... ).

Along with Carlos (who passed away a few years ago), Darren, the rest of the HLA staff and Matt the owner, Rudy made staying at HLA an experience to be cherished.

May he rest in peace. Vaya con Dios, Rudy.

1 thing I forgot about Rudy. I'm an old-school guy, in the morning I like to drink 3 cups or so of coffee & read the newspaper back home in Vegas, & I like to recreate that when on vacation. Well, each morning I would come down the stairs from the 2nd floor @ the LA,, from 202, facing the front desk & Rudy would quickly look around for "La Nacion", the local paper delivered daily to the LA that I liked to read. He would find it & hand it to me, or if he was reading it himself, he would fold it back up, despite my protestations, & hand it to me. If it wasn't there he would look back in the kitchen & try & find it for me. Mr. Randy he would say, here is La Nacion for you. Then, I could sit down with my paper, my Costa Rican coffee, & my wingmen on the front porch of the LA, talk about yesterdays' adventures, todays' plans & read what was going on in sjo & the world.

He always treated me like a king even though I was just another dumb, schmuck, monger from the usa. If that isn't the best customer service in the world, nothing is. Thanks again Rodolfo. rip

Sad to hear of this, Rudy would always ask me every morning if I needed anything while staying at Castillo or Amistad, and go out his way to make it happen and feel at home as all other employees do at both locations. He loved to watching YouTube Videos and pushing his India Viagra

Goodspeed Rodolfo.. you will be missed my Friend

Late to the thread, but yes, Rudy was absolutely the best. The type of person all hotels wish they had at the front desk. He will be missed.
