Not sure about the current condition, I stayed there a few days before Thanksgiving. My friend and I were going to stay there for a week but ended up leaving after 3 days and moving to the SL. I did not have a huge problem with the rooms, they were not spotless, you could tell the hotel has went down hill a bit in the last two years, any large, older building is definitely going to have to to be maintained even when not being used, maybe more so, especially in the climate there. Not sure how many rooms they are currently renting but I peeked inside a few empty ones that had the doors open and they looked like they had not been utilized or cleaned in a long time.
The reason we left early was not because of the rooms, it was several other reasons. First and probably the most important to me anyways was the lack of any type of security, especially after the desk person left in the evening. At night the front door was wide open, anyone could walk in at their leisure. I also seen multiple chicas walk in and go directly to rooms up and downstairs with no one checking their id's or escorting them in. As most of you here know it's not "if" that will create a problem but "when".
Also, they have leased out the kitchen to a local Tica, many of you know her, she has been around for years, I won't mention her name, I have always liked her, will leave it at that. But as many here also know that when catering to gringos in the hospitality business it helps to have a little bit of gringo oversight, there appears to be none of that. The food was ok, not near as good as it used to be, they were also "out" of about 25% of things on the menu, portions were also smaller than before, that was actually a good thing for me, not that I lost any weight during my stay tho..lol The biggest problem we had with the new way things in the restaurant was there was no drink coolers anymore that had bottled water, cokes, beer, etc. Each morning we had to go somewhere else to get water to drink, the cooks or guy at the desk d not even have access to the locked up drink coolers anymore. Nothing worse than waking up in the am hung over or still drunk and no water around. Another issue we had was the second day we were there and the internet did not work at all, the guy at the desk said it was down in the whole area. we went over to the SL for lunch and it worked fine. No internet on the third day, none on the 4th morning so we checked out and moved to SL. I understand it takes time to get things up and running again after almost a 2 year lockdown but these are issues that are easy to solve with oversight and actually caring about your guest stay. I have stayed at the Amistad may times over the years, sometimes for more than a month at a time. Hope Matt is working on or has these issues resolved by now. Pura Vida.
