Cocal & Vista Mar had no availability in early January (specifically the week of the 6th) so I booked a room at Copacabana. Not sure what to expect other than it's clothing options (WTF?) as the reviews are all over the map. Is it a dump? Apartotel Flamboyant is still available though...should I stay there instead? I'm a bit worried it's a total dump. It's my first trip to CR so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

Ok, well I found out that while Cocal doesn't accept online reservations, they do have availability on the dates I need so I booked an ocean front room at the Cocal instead of the Copa. Looks like I'll be staying at ground zero for mongering in Jaco.

The way the Cocal website is set up, it only accepts online reservations for Vista Mar. They should really clarify that on their website!

Are you going solo?? Are you looking for more of a condo type place or a single room?

No, I'm going with 1 buddy. We've both mongered elsewhere but never in CR so we are newbies to the CR scene. We are staying 2 nights in SJ at HDR and 2 nights in Jaco at CC.

In Tijuana, I'd never stay at any of the hotel above Hong Kong Club (Cascades) or in the Zona Norte for that matter as they are dumps, loud and for the most part, just phucking rooms which kind of grosses me out. But HDR & CC seem a bit more like regular hotels with action in the lobby or pool. I may be wrong but most of the reviews claim that the rooms in both hotels are basic, but clean.

Never stayed at HDR but the rooms at Cocal are basic and clean. Lot of people complain about them for the price but location with girls on site and no fee makes it worthwhile.

Pool scene was kind of lame when I was there with hardly anyone in them during the day and closed at night. Don’t expect a raucous party in the pools, at least that was my experience when I was there.

The rooms at the HDR are exactly dumps! Check out La Amastad or Sportsman's. Thank me later!

The Castillo, which is the sister property of La Amistad. Same deal but no train. Either is an excellent choice, as is the Sportsmens.

OK, thanks for the heads up. I changed our CR accommodations to the Sportsman's Lodge in January. I have always wanted to stay at the HDR, but I know I'd probably regret it once I was there since I'm sort of a hotel snob.
