Hey fellas. I'm planning my first trip to CR this year. I will be staying for 7 days. First half of trip I will be staying in San Jose. I would then like to stay somewhere on the beach for 2 days, but don't know where. Any suggestions?

That depends on your goal for staying at the beach. If you will be looking for chicas while at the beach then the only choice is Jaco. Jaco is the most developed of the beach towns. It also has the worst actual beach. Much of the beach is small pebble and rock, not sand. I still enjoy walking the beach every day that I am there. I visit both SJ and Jaco every trip to CR.

If you are going to the beach to enjoy to ocean and relax there are better choices than Jaco. There are laid back surfing towns, remote places in the jungle with eco lodges, fishing villages, and high end exclusive resorts.

I plan on spending most my time in the city exploring the local scene and nightlife. I figure I should venture out after that.

I would to go somewhere where there are fun activities, such as ATV rides, snorkeling, etc., but I would also like the option of bringing a girl home as well. So I guess the safe choice would be Jaco then?

If you have any plan on bringing a girl home Jaco is your only option.

There are plenty of places in Jaco where you can book the ATV ride, crocodile tour, zip lines. Kayak Jaco does kayak/snorkeling tours. Manuel Antonio National Park is a nice day trip. Cocal has a desk that will book tours that is open during the day. All the tours will get you back well before the majority of the chicas start arriving at Cocal.

Crocodile tour is fun. You cross the Tarcoles River about 30 min. north of Jaco. Many people stop on the bridge, there are some huge crocs down below. It has one of the three highest concentrations of big crocodiles in the world. If you take the tour you are in a boat on the river much closer. The guides will feed some of the big ones so they will get close.

I myself would skip the croc tour since I'm from Florida and am used to their Gator cousins, my personal one I named "Chompy", when I lived on a canal, and he's such a joker always sneaking up on me...middle left...

If you spend time in SJO at the beginning of your trip, you can find a civilized girl to take to the beach with you for $150 per day plus pay her expenses. I recommend the beaches south of Jaco, like Manuel Antonio

I have probably done it 20 times

Don't reach for a girl.......if you cannot take the right girl, then just go to Jaco and suffer through the Jaco scene
