I am in South Florida and I was on line just pricing flights to SJO or Santo Domingo and airfares this summer are as high as I have seen in many years. It has been years since I used Priceline.com to bid on a flight. Priceline list their partner airlines and the only one from South Florida would be American. (Jet Blue & Spirit are not partners) It seems to me that you can lock in certain dates but you got to be flexible on the times.

I am wondering if anyone has had any recent experience on this website?

the prices are holding strong from FLL. its varied between 4-500 for years now. jet blue and spirit are the only players.
american flies out of miami, but higher prices.
southwest is entering the market later this year, and maybe copa or some others might go after more market share.

for me, its best to book directly with jet blue, or spirit ( if i absolutely have to ).
i have booked through expedia and priceline and not saved much. one time , booking through priceline on spirit, the flight was cancelled and spirit put me at the back of the line due to the discount ticket.

If you sign up to receive Jet Blue's emails, they occasional have some good fares out of FLL. Last week, they had flights from FLL to SJO for $179 each way, for flights July through September.

Thanks for the replies guys, however, what I am wondering is if anyone has ever gone on priceline.com and bid a price for a ticket.

My thought process is this : I am in South Florida and Priceline list American as a travel partner. It does not list Spirit or jet Blue as travel partners and they are the other airlines who fly out of South Florida. Therefore if someone bids a price they will get American but would have to be flexible as to times. I can go on line and see which flights have empty seats so you have an idea of what flights you might get.

Are you saying that Spirit now collects the $29 exit tax fee at the time of booking? If so, can you post a link to the news please?

Also, once you get there, let us know how smoothly your exit goes. I am hoping that if the charge is in the ticket, the airline check-in desk supplies the proper receipts so all interested parties are on the same page.

I have used priceline for a vacation package to Santo Domingo and got a great deal. I got the Nicolas for a little more than the flight normally costs. For just a flight I would assume that you are getting American with poor arrival and or departure times. If you are flexible bid accordingly and if you don't get the good deal, stop bidding and buy directly from the airline.

It's good to be a pilot when mongering. Last trip I paid 38.00 dollars ( taxes for international flights) for my round trip flight from Orlando to San Jose on Jet Blue. The flight down to Orlando on a FedEx Jet was free. :D

Kev- you need to get hooked up on the So. American routes, I have a good friend who is a pilot for your main competitor flying to Brazil and other countries. He found the girl of his dreams there and is now a happily married man to a very nice Brazilian woman.

Remember when going through a 3rd party like Priceline.com, you do not get the same level of protection if you have to change your plans abruptly. I posted this today but it bears repeating: http://consumerist.com/2015/06/29/all-m ... xcept-one/
Sometimes you have to give up one thing to get another.
