This is an anonymous forum, and while members are free to express their opinions, it is unfair to speak on behalf of a business that it will close. How does an anonymous person cite their source? I heard it from a guy who is good friends with the owner of so and so.

So, if its merely your opinion that a business will close because, for example you think their beer costs too much money, then please be clear that is your opinion or observation.

However, please do not pretend to represent one of the owners of a business, or someone who is a party to their private business dealings, and the say that it will close.

I just got off the phone with Tommy, the current owner. Let me reiterate once again guys and girls, M.L. has no plans of closing. If and when the new owners take possession, I think it will be a positive change. He also wanted me to let you guys know, if there is a sale or management changes hands in the near future, he will be sure to let the CRT members know immediately. As far as we know, M.L. is chica friendly and will remain that way for a long time to come. I am personally sorry if I mislead anyone with my previous comment saying that Feb.14th will be their last day. I never meant is as saying it was closing, just a new management was coming in. Please, if you have reservations there, DO NOT cancel them. If you need a room for this Super Bowl weekend, they still have a few but you must hurry. If I can personally assist anyone with a reservation, please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Did you happen to discuss whether or not they have solved the continual room safe theft problem?

I spoke with George, one of the other partners, at length about it last June . He said after numerous firings of personnel he couldn't believe they still hadn't solved the issue. George seemed frustrated and upset about the issue but said he was out of ideas on what to do. I suggested that newer 100% electronic room safes be installed. These newer generation safes do not have traditional master keys. I suggested this because it was assumed that a master key was being used to open the safes at the ML. In addition I have noticed most hotels outside of Costa Rica using these newer generation room safes.

I have reservations to stay at Mona Lisa during the last week of Feb. After reading about the safe thefts, room conditions posted above and new owners possibly not being chica friendly I think I might have to change reservations to SL DR or LA. We'll see what happens over next week or so.

Stopped by and spoke to brother Guy today. Looks like all is A O.K. I don't want to speak for him but I expect that he will be making an announcement shortly. Looks like he's going to be around for a long time with the M.L.

Guy is one of the reasons I stay at the ML and of course the good rates. The hotel itself is a little tired and needs some tlc.

I just stayed 3 nights over SB weeekend. No issues, great internet this time. The only "issue" that somebody would be able to find is that there was no safe in my room. I brought a locking money bag and also had a lock on my computer bag so i kept all my money and valuables double locked.

On Monday night, one of the bartenders stole 4K colones from me. I bought a local beer for 1500 or whatever. I gave her 10k, and she gave me back 8k and some change, so I gave her the change. I left the 4k on the bar. I saw a chica I had known since 2005 ort 2006. I got up and turned away to say hello. The beer was left on the bar. When I sat back down, the money was gone. I asked one of the bartenders and she played stupid and asked the other one and they both shurugged tgeir shoulders and laughed. It was the fat brunette Laura, and some curly haired redhead.

Stealing in Costa Rica is a way of life for these people ....they think nothing wrong with getting things for free...I had a girlfriend that stole my cell phone, in turn the phone was taken by the sister then the uncle stole it from the sister and then ended up in the hands of the little brother who wanted to sell it to me whom said he bought in the streets from another guy... so no it doesn't surprise me that as soon as you turned your back the money was missing ....

Rule number 1 ....never run a tab at a bar in CR....rule number 2 ...never leave money on the bar , money left on the bar is called "propina"...
rule #3 beware of the pigeon drop or other scams ...woman distracts man, woman bartender steals money, woman that distracts man gets her cut after hours, do this 20 x ...repeat process every night....
Consider yourself lucky...she could've taken your condoms and your v pills...then you would really be up shit creek...

Orange, I know I am getting old and maybe can be confused sometimes, thus the math in your story has me confused. She gave you 8K, and you left 4K on the bar. What happened to the other 4K, since the 4K you left on the bar is what she took?

Orange, I am a little confused for a different reason. Why would you go back to a hotel where you say you were robbed the previous time you were there? Your post along with several others made me decide to pass on the ML. I have been to the casino and bar area but have not seen a room there since they were the Clarion and Nixon was running the casino. However, most of the reviews, even the somewhat positive ones, have said the place needs work.

Dan (Admin3), you gotta be kidding. Many people on the street in CR know the owner of Mona Lisa is also a part owner of the CRT website. If so, he's your boss, so him giving you a call telling you to prop him up on CRT is really disingenuous on both of your parts. If what's said about Mona Lisa is untrue, let him refute it himself on CRT and provide real direct information to those who are his potential customers. I'm sure that you can arrange for him to have a CRT membership.

Orange, must have gotten you mixed up with other posters. There were a few post about people having their safe broken into. I thought you were one of them. Apparently you were not.
