I was checking the Air Canada website. I notice Air Canada Rouge is starting their flights in July. I think they fly to SJO on Tuesdays and Fridays. Seems the best fares are if you fly out on Tuesday and return on Tuesday. Direct flight would cost between $690-750 return.

cheers,
Attila

Well, I booked LACSA nonstop for August holiday weekend for $680. If that's AC's version of "competition", & it actually might be, it's not going to be worthwhile.

I always fly LACSA but it's not nonstop. 45 minutes layover in San Salvador. AC gets you there 2hrs earlier but LACSA has daily flights and treats you better.

cheers,
Attila

Yeah, I think I took that flight once before I settled on Delta as my preferred carrier. Not thrilled about getting to SJO at 4 pm, but Delta's fares were ridiculous unless I chose to leave from Buffalo.

ElO, how long are you going for. Just the long week-end or for a week. I just got back a couple of weeks ago and thinking about going down in August.

cheers,
Attila

Aug. 2-5. I haven't gone for a full week at a time in years. If you're in town, I always stay at La Amistad, feel free to pm me if you want to meet up.

If I'm in town, I will. It will be nice to meet a fellow Canuck in SJ. Never stayed at L'Amistad but went there for lunch a couple of times on my last trip. Food was great and Matt made a mean bloody mary.

cheers,
Attila

We do tend to be kind of thin on the ground in SJ, especially these days, lol. Trip #46 for me, though.

Trip#46! I made my 1st trip last July. I just notch trip# 6 in June. Our yankee cousins aren't interested in hockey. The chicas think I'm crazy when I start talking hockey with them after the dirty deed.   If I didn't stop, I think they were going to charge me extra.   Anyways, have a fun, safe trip.

cheers,
Attila

Yeah, 4 or 5x per year since about 2000. I'm not much into hockey anymore these days, too many teams. Guess I'm showing my age, lol. I will be kind of pissed that I'll miss the Ticat game, but I guess I'll try to watch it online at La Amistad. Actually, speaking of hockey, one of the weirdest things I ever experienced was a Filipina in Manila who absolutely LOVED hockey. Last thing I ever expected to see.

I've also been waiting for this new Air Canada Rouge. Which is to directly compete with Westjet & AiTransat.
Would be also nice if AC would scrap AC Jazz. Very expensive unless your going downtown then Portor is the option.

I pound my head off my monitor every time I think how uncompetitive the CDN airfare market is. 3 airlines. Be interesting to see the Porter expansion. I would love for some US carrier like JetBlue or Southwest to come in and man up to the market and undercut the terrible system they have in place now.

Westjet is a sellout. They started good but its evolved into a market bearing airline. Oh Air Canada is selling for 700$, maybe we should put ours there oppose to when they use to just undercut them by 100$ on minimal routes.

One thing for sure, I will die before I pay to fly on Air Canada again.

Agreed. I used to like Westjet, but they've followed the path of least resistance. The only thing Air Canada is good for is quick flights to Montreal from Toronto...more options for that than Westjet.

Occasionally, I'll drive to Buffalo for an outbound flight on Delta, but whenever I search fares, JetBlue is not much (if at all) cheaper.
