I can't seem to find the search button on here... feel free to flame me and point out the obvious where it is :), but I was hoping to find info on The Costa Rican Condo. It looks nice from the site and pics, but I can't seem to figure out where it is located in relation to like the DL, SL and La Amistad?

I have stayed at La Amistad in their "Penthouse Suite," how woudl this compare?

Any info, sure woudl be appreciated. ... thanks

Thanks for that. Any info about the accommodations? Are there any posts reviewing the place?

If the directions provided by Seabreeze are correct, then I have spent some time in those condos. You might provide a link to the listing and I can confirm it or not. The ones I am talking about are one block west of HLH on the north side of that same road.

In my opinion, they are very nice. There is even a neat smoking/lounge area on the roof with great views of San Jose. The condo a friend of mine rented there had a large living area with full kitchen complete with glasses/plates/utensils, a wide-screen TV, stereo, several nice couches and a nice dining table. Cable and internet were also provided.

There were three bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bedroom had an in-suite bathroom and a hot tub. The other two bedrooms were small and shared a bathroom. All rooms had wide-screen TVs and comfortable American-style mattresses.

I was very impressed with the condo my friend had. It was on the top floor with an elevator just down the hall. There were also stairs but never used them. They also had private, enclosed, off-the-street parking if you will have a car with you. They also had 24-hour security in the lobby within sight of the elevator.

Hope that helps and hope we are talking about the same condos.
Steve

Hi Steve,

Here is the link... Can you compare to the La Amistad? Thanks.

Yes, that is the same place I was talking about... Hard to compare to Amistad as it's an apples/oranges kind of thing. I really like Amistad and think their all-inclusive promotion is the best deal in town right now.

That said, I'll try. Outside the Penthouse, you will have more room in these condos. However, the kitchen in the condo is much better. For privacy, hard to beat the condos. On convenience, I'd rate them about the same unless you are an MP fan, then the condo would win out. For noise, I'd have to say the condo because the train doesn't go anywhere near there. However, Amistad pays a guy to guard the crossing so the train doesn't blow right by Amistad in the mornings.

No guest fee in either place. All rooms at Amistad are one bed rooms. The condo has 3 with 3 beds. Both have good TVs with cable and internet. Both have hot tubs. Bathrooms are about equal.

Not sure what more I can compare. Obviously Amistad has a much closer restaurant and bar. I'd also give Amistad an edge in security at night as the area around that condo can have trannies walking around. But after dark, would recommend a taxi to either unless it is the short SL to Amistad walk.

Hope that helps...Steve

The penthouse block from HLH is a residential condo. The owner cannot rent it out for short term now that the building has an active condo association. The administrator of the building could deny you access.

I stayed there with 2 buddies a few years ago. It was adequate, we had a small get together one night and a downstairs neighbor complained but not a big deal. Rooms were sufficient, I had the largest of the 3, lotsa room, no a/c and it was warm during the day but comfortable at night. At the time they were working on the water and we had trouble with it all weekend, at times even losing it completely.
Unless your really trying to save a few bucks, I would stay Amistad hands down, free breakfast, laundry and telefone calls to the USA, add in the security and convenience as well as the way Rudy and Carlos treat you like family, it's truely a no brainer. The only way I would stay there again would be if I was really pinching my pennies.
Good Luck,
Jac
