Hey Fellas!

Newbie here and still doing all of my research :D Almost have my trip to CR locked in for the 4th of July weekend and since this will be my 1st time, i'm going all in staying at DR.

However when I called the only rooms they have available are their standard rooms. Being that they are the cheapest, I'm worried about quality and couldn't find any reviews. any help here gents??

I have some better options at SL but my traveling buddy (celebrating his 30th) insist on DL since we can just walk down stairs and pick someone up 8) thanks!!

Personally I'd have a talk with your buddy. If you have better options at SL take them you will not regret it, you can grab girls on site at SL or bring girls back there from the DR. No chica fee everytime you go back to your room with one like at the Del Rey. You can walk to the DR from SL in about 5 min. Very quick cab ride also. Plus telling a DR girl it's your first trip and your staying there is like the lotto for some of these girls. She's knows she will be back on the floor 25 min into your hour. Staying outside the DR and removing them from it helps (not always) to get them out of the hurry up and get downstairs attitude. Like I've told many the Del Rey is a great place to visit but I would never stay there. Staying at SL will in no way hinder your ablility to pick up girls. But if you want to feel free and I hope you enjoy your first trip.

I hear you brother! Yeah at best they said they can setup us up in a standard and bump up to something else if it becomes available. From what I read, my initial choice was SL as well since it also provides onsite action and better quality. I just think he got caught up, "if you want to be in the middle of the action, DelRey"

Appreciate the help! I'll sway him the other way since its right around the corner

For the very first time in CR, the HDR is perfect to get your feet wet, there is nothing wrong with staying there and enjoying the newly found scenery. Enjoy it with an innocent newbie perspective.

Yes, you are a first-time tourist and the girls will smell you coming a mile away, yet, you will have a blast, spend some bucks and have a smile in your face.
Then, on day two (or later as you see fit) your curiosity may arise and you can venture out and learn how to make CR better for your unique tastes .

Middle of the action these days seems to be the Cocal. The Rey has dropped off significantly and Key Largo is virtually dead. Hopefully things are better during rainy season and the chicas stay in San Jose.

As to where to stay, I would say you will be okay at either place. As to chica fees, The Rey charges chica fees and SL doesn't but it will probably work out to the same since the room rates are higher at the Lodge.

The rooms are nicer at Sportsmens and would be my choice. It just has a better atmosphere.

Mojo. You are not going to find many reviews about the D.R. because the majority of the members on this board do not stay there for one reason or another. Mostly because they are not a CRT discount providers, the price for chica fees ($11 per chica per session) the noise and the price. This is the complaints I hear. Now according to the clients I have took there in the last couple of weeks, they are running a special on a standard room, I think it's $59. The crt guys mostly frequent the S.L, Amistad, HLH, M.L., D.I., and Castillo because they are CRT discount providers, do not charge a chica fees and have great service. Most guys staying at one of these hotels, frequent the Rey and partake of the action there. If they find a chica they like, usually take them back to their hotel. This is the trend.

If you are a CRT member, I highly recommend that your support your CRT discount providers. There has never been a better time to come to San Jose with all the specials going on.

I trust you will have a great time on your trip.

Don't stay anywhere just because you get a discount. Look at the net cost for all hotels if want to save some money. Some of the places with the CRT discount just up their prices and then give the discount, not saving you anything. Always look at your net cost with or without a discount. Don't get caught up in the hype of a discount. During the rainy season, ask for a lower price. Lots of rooms empty this time of year.

Mojo561:

To answer your question ( and not express an opinion about your choice ).
The only difference in a deluxe and a standard is floor space. You get the same bed the same TV the same bathroom. The deluxe will have a table and chairs that the standard will not have.

I have been staying there for the last 17 years and that's where I'll stay on my next trip. Okay sorry I had to throw in an opinion.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

I stay at the HDR all the time, standard rooms are clean, have a safe and nice TV. Nothing special, looks like a Holiday Inn. Maid service is excellent. See if you can get on the 3rd floor or higher, it can be noisy on the second floor, and ask for a window room, some inside rooms have no windows and are claustrophobic.

The obvious benefits are you are in the belly of the beast and can view the action whenever you want without having to walk or take a cab. It's exciting for newbies, like being in a carnival, especially at night and the Key Largo is right there. I myself don't like walking around at night and being able to pick a hottie and head upstairs immediately is my preference. their restaurant is very good albeit a little pricey. Walking down to the main walkway is quick.

Disadvantages are thugs constantly abound outside and approach you, but in the daytime are harmless. I don't advise walking around there at night.

The boutique hotels are popular with old timers who like a classier, quieter atmosphere where camaraderie is more important, but a newbie may find them boring, especially if your friend is only 30. Their ho selections are limited and hit or miss and you may find yourself traveling about at night to the Del Rey anyway.

Everyone's opinion is different on this subject, I recommend a newbie stay at the Del Rey on his first visit for the most excitement and minimal hassle, then also visit HLH, SL, NF, ML and Dunn Inn (their food is quite good) and decide if they want a more subdued stay in follow up visits...
