I will be doing some sightseeing. waterfalls, cartago, vulcano,...

I guess where I was going was that using local transportation and packaged tours for sightseeing is going to be cheaper than having a rental 99% of the time and a lot less hassle. That doesn't even factor in outrageous traffic fines and supposed damage charges on the rental. But if you do decide the go with a rental and plan to go into the wild for sightseeing be sure to get something rugged with 4 wheel drive. Things get exciting when you get off the main roads.

And you'll be sorry if you don't buy the most damage insurance that you can buy for the rental car.

I hope that the earthquake didn't do much damage. I'm thinking of heading down next month to get away from the election stupidity in the US.

I'm getting ready to go to SJO around the first, but am trying to find a hotel at the right location and price and of course chica-policy. I've thought of the Castillo but their website seems to be down, as does their email. Does anyone have any info on that or should I look elsewhere?

I tried this: http://www.hotelcastillo.biz/ and it worked fine.
Try e-mailing Darren, the manager, directly at hotelcastillo@racsa.co.cr . If all else fails, invest a phone call.
Hotel Castillo is a good place to balance budget and value... and it is chica-friendly.

Looks like a full house over Halloween. I'll be at the castillo from Oct 13 to Oct 29. Hopefully the back bar will be open. I love hanging at SL and HLH but something about the back bar at the Castillo is relaxing in the evening. I hope to get a chance to meet you all

Thank you BlueDevil. I keep getting a "server not fond" error. Both on Firefox and IExplorer. I will try the email address again though.

UPDATE:
Got the issue sorted out. Thanks all for the help.
