Alright gentleman, thanks for the advice. I'll look into an Orange taxi when I get there, definitely not packing light enough for the bus ride and like other's have said, after having traveled since 5am I'd rather the quickest direct route to the hotel. :D

But PlaneCrazy, you could get an extra 3/5 of a session with that savings! And in Monger:The Board Game, you are heavily penalized for spending any funds on the trip that are not 100% necessary. :D

Several times I have found single gringos at baggage claim who were going into town and split a taxi with them.

I also do this in Atlanta. I just walk by the line of people waiting for a taxi and say "Marietta", and most of the time share a taxi there too.

That is an excellent idea! I will definitely use that one on my next trip. Didn't do me much good when I lived in Jaco, but you should almost always be able to find someone to share with going into the city.

I have done that as well. It has usually been my best option and once came away with a great wingman.

God, it's hilarious reading about people trying to save $5 or $10 on the taxi from the airport.

On some level I think it's less about saving a few bucks than avoiding a potential scam. How many stories have you heard about NYC cabbies taking some rube from JFK Airport to Midtown via the Bronx? There are plenty of scare stories which a lot of would-be tourists have probably taken to heart. As for me, I've taken cabs in every city in the northeast corridor (Boston, NYC, Philly, Baltimore, and DC as well) and I've never had anyone try to rip me off. Maybe I just give off a "not a tourist" vibe no matter where I am, or maybe the stories are just exaggerations or urban legends, who knows.

Of course, the same people who worry about being ripped off for $20 on an airport cab ride, are the same people who are going to end up paying cien in the HDR...who said people were rational?

LOL! I'm all about the long game. The time and effort I save getting to the hotel, rested and showered up means I have just that much more energy and time to buy up all of Gringo Gulch Boulevard ahead of the players sitting between two old 'abuelas conosa' on the local bus :)

Agree. But by the third and later trips, most of us can usually give the cabbie directions to LA or SL :)

Don't get me wrong, some times it's fun to just go off the beaten path and do things like a local. I just hate travel days. I fly so much for work that on vacation, all I want to do after a long day flying is get to hotel ASAP and unwind.
