^totally different. the 200s are more modern type suites and the 300s are part of the original hotel. it appears to me that 310,311 and 312 were all part of the original owners living space and they were divided up into 3 different rooms. 312 appears to have been the master and you descend a staircase to 311 on the left and 310 on the right.
when i stayed there i really liked the 311/312 rooms because i did spend a lot of time in the rooms. both are very good for larger groups and parties. just a steep climb when you are in a drunken stupor.

If the 2xx rooms are more like suites, would you say they are as nice or equally nice as the more traditional PH 3xx rooms?

201 is more like a series of rooms joined together by an hallway, with bedroom, bathroom, sauna, sofa/TV. I haven't stayed in this one so I can't vouch for the train noise.

202 faces the street on the front of the hotel. As you enter the room, the bed is right there facing the door, in front of the bed is the sofa / TV stand, as you turn left into the suite you go up a stair and there's a full size jacuzzi next to the windows overlooking the street, a dry sauna, a shower stall, and toilet room on the right. This is my favorite room at HLA; lots of light and no train noise issue.

203 is next to 202, and it has no exterior window, only a window overlooking an interior staircase. It's the smallest of the 3 "200" series PH suites. It has 2 rooms - the bedroom with a couple of chairs and a table, TV facing the bed, large bathroom with dry sauna, full jacuzzi, and shower stall. The A/C used to have a rattling noise issue but hopefully they've fixed that by now :).

310 (or is it 311?) is the previous owner's apartment, with the quirkly layout - a full size kitchen, 2 bedrooms, one of the bathrooms has a urinal.

Haven't stayed in 312 yet - I will be there soon so I can update this post then.

I stayed in 203 my last visit and it was nice (my novia loved the dry sauna! Had to drag her out of it every morning :) ) Like others have said though, it's only window opens up to the inside of the hotel (the staircase by the manager's office). Very quiet room, except for the staff noise in the morning getting breakfast ready, I found. The bedroom area is a little cramped. The AC is mounted in the ceiling and it actually swivels up and down. Took me a while to figure out where the draft was coming from, lol. You can stop that though with the remote.

I have 202 booked for my stay in January. I'm looking forward to trying that room out as I took a look at it when I walked by once. (you have to walk right by it to get to 203). One of the many things I like about La Amistad is that they leave the rooms open when they are vacant, so you can see what they look like.

312 is a very nice room.

First of all, it's quite large. Has a large living room area with a bar and stools, 2 sofas, coffee table, and flat screen TV. Great for a party.

Has a dining room table (but no kitchen).

High ceilings, lots of windows, and a large balcony with a wonderful view of San Jose.

3 person jacuzzi, shower stall, etc.

And a dry sauna large enough for 3-4 (or maybe twice that if they're real friendly :D ).

Caveats:

1 - the train horns can be clearly heard here and sometimes you can even feel the rumbling of the cars as they go by.

2 - 312 (and 313) are on the top floor so you will get plenty of exercise. There are 48 steps (yep, I counted them) from bottom to top if you go up the rear stairway. You go to floor 3, then up the spiral staircase at the end of the hall.

HTH,

mh

So you're the reason I was unable to book 202 next month!

Just to throw my review of 201 into this thread, I liked the room. Nice bed, big tv. Best feature was that bedroom had no window, I prefer a really dark room for sleeping. Only a little ambient light from the sitting room. Never had an issue with the train noise either. Looked into 202 while it was empty & it looked good too, but different kind of setup with bathroom on a different level from the rest of the suite.

I was just in Rm 313. The Ladies bitched about the steps. And the train was a bit noisy. But the view was awsome of the city. I really like the open ceiling and all the windows. And it has a couch for playing. It has a queen bed.
