Check first class fares. Sometimes they are just 200-300 higher.

Check out Spirit Airlines. They fly out of Dallas/Fort Worth to San Jose. I just checked Jan 4 to the 10th and it quoted with taxes and fees $427. Not sure if that helps but worth checking out.

I've flown them from Fort Lauderdale to San Jose and it's bare bones but it's way cheap and it gets you there. With frequent flyer miles now from fort Lauderdale to San Jose I'm paying $57 total. Sweet!

FYI flights seem to go down the third week of Jan and then they stabilize albeit still high.

Booked a January trip on Spirit out of FLL for $268 RT including taxes. I know it's Spirit but....
