I have a group of 6 or 7 planning a trip to CR in Jan and most will be staying at the SL and 4 will be newbees! I've used Gato once or twice but not always on time so would like to hear if anyone had a recommendation of a van driver that wouldn't try to rip us off but would be able to take the group to and from the airport and also we plan on a trip to Jaco for 3 of the 9 days, the rest in SJO. Also, if anyone has a good recommendation for a fishing charter out of Jaco that would be helpful. One more thing so I pick up a cell phone there or bring one and just use the local sim cards? I know this is probable the wrong section to make this post but after these 7 guys hit the place I think there will be a lot of new post! Many thanks

On the phone issue only, bring an unlocked preferably 3g and buy a sim card at the airport, cheap, 20 minutes if no one else in line. Do a search on cell phones on this board and you'll have plenty of more detailed info. Unlocked is the key word, this info will give you a start.

Why not get with Brother PuraVidaTransport? If he can't help you, he can at least advise on who can. Here's his Website: http://www.puravidatransport.com/

taxi is only $15 to SL via airport taxi
Jaco can be a fun bus ride.
copa cabana will pick you up from the airport. an adult hotel. no group of girl poolside 3-4 in the evening.
the beetle bar is the main play, 300yrds walk, after 6pm. prices similar to SL, BM/DR, KL
There is a good zipline tour near jaco.
maybe a day trip to the pacific, $110 each, and have them deliver you to jaco, (closer than San Jose), instead of San Jose.

Jorge

$15.00???? Please tell me who you use since I have never got there for anything cheaper than $20.00.

my last trip was a few years back. I have just walked up to the official taxi station inside near the exit, and paid $15
price may have gone up. I know the same price does not apply going back to the airport. maybe $20 going back.
Paid in advance, and gave the driver the coupon. This also means a good driver, not a bandit.
I will be revisiting this place in a few weeks. $15 or $20 is no-problem.
I am wondering about the 24/7 cien or less costs.
I am going to pick up some rum coming in also. no duty, and said to be a deal.

I think you are going to pay $25 to $30 for the taxi on your next visit if you use the official taxi station

Giovanni through Castillo, has a 7 pass van, he charges $28US airport to the hotel, but you can make a stop on the way for snacks, beer, and a friend without the meter running. He waited an hour while I endured the customs hassle last time through, and as many guys do, he can get you whatever is needed, have it waiting when you arrive. Great guy

Walter Rodriquez has a van and does monger trips to Jaco pretty often. Speaks good English and very dependable. He'll probably do a trip from the airport to downtown for $20. DM me if you want his contact info.

Buy your cell phone from amazon. Make sure the frequencies are 1800 (GSM) or 850 (3g). Better to have both because there are areas outside downtown that doesn't have 3g service.
