Made my air res before checking the Dunn and Sportsman, apparently Holloween is a big deal and could not get a room at all the regular monger hotels. Since I am only aware of the liberal guest policies in these hotels, are there any other around with the same , I don't mind paying a small guest fee, I have no choice lol. Also any comments on Hotel Santo Tomas?

Did you try Hotel Castillo, Hotel Amistad, Hotel Little Havana, Freebird, Sleep Inn or (gasp!) Hotel Del Rey?

i am in the same situation as you. santo tomas is where i landed from a great recommendation from boyd. i spoke to the hotel through msn messanger booked rrom. all questions were answered. a 15 dollar guest fee and only one at a time. also no issues with yoru guest enjoyingthe pool or whatever you want there. they were very nice in my questions and the rates were decent. they gave me the quoted price and said it would be complete. no added taxes and in us dollars withoutthe exchange rate problem you get at the dunn inn. last two times staying at the dunn inn had to argue the price because they woudl quote you in us dollars. then whe you get your bill because they buy and sell at a different rate they end up doing funky math and exchange twice. for example. room was 70.00 tax included quoted price. when i got bill they took the 70 us and converted it to colones at there exchange rate. then to help you. if you ask for it in dollars they then convert it using there other rate. bill comes to 74.00. then if you pay with credit card you end up with them taking the 74.00 and converting back into colones at there other rate. end up paying 78.00 for a 70.00 room. lol. took forever to for me to explain the issue withthat. so i woudl give them 70.00 us cash. they say. sir because they have to convert itto colones its 74.00. lol.. they couldnt get it throughthere head.

Here is my idea for guys coming for Halloween with no place to stay

You are going to have to venture out of the favorite places to stay world

This a mostly gringo holiday... so there is no way every room in San Jose is booked

You may not get all that you want, but you will have a place to rest your head

Remember there are many short term places, or your buddy may let you use his room

I would rather stay in a non-chica place and deal with it than stay home :?:

Looks like a few guys my stay a Santo Tomas.... nice place, that in the past was an anti-chica place, and now seems some what chica tolerent... with a fee... If the place was to be taken over by CRT gringos for Halloween they may come around to chica friendly.. who knows

branch out take a risk, you may find a great place

Sleep Inn ? lots of rooms, are they full? Best Western down town?

At this point begars can't be choosers... why did you not book a long time ago... reservations are easy to cancel... last minute bookings not so much

This is why I avoid the holiday weekends.. yea lots of fun if you like sausage :D

I too am staying at the Santo Tomas on Halloween week. I hope that by keeping it low profile and quiet that I will be able to monger comfortably from that location. I will try to make friends with security and even slip him a few bucks if that what it takes. I suggest fellow CRT that are staying there do the same and see if we can make it Chica friendly. I have my regular girls and they are very reserved and behave themselves. I always add a couple of new ones each trip. To avoid trouble ,I suggest that your negotiation be completed before coming to the Hotel. They do sometimes want to change the price, so tell them before time that the price is final. I have been at some Hotels when the guy had not pre-negotiated and that is when the problems arise. Also if you are a newbie, I suggest you do not pay until services provided in full .This is a standard procedure for all CRT members.. If they start changing the rules , give them $20 and put them on the road. You are the one in charge , it is easy to say next in C.R.. If the Hotel tries to charge a chica fee let's try to stick together on this to get them to waive it this week. Tell them we intend to provide them with a trouble free environment and we want to stay there again if they will cooperate. The location is excellent for CRT so lets see what we can do. Thanks Guys will see you soon ! Pura Vida!

Thanks for all the tips gentlemen I will be staying at Santo Tomas, rates are good, not thrilled with the 15 dollar guest fee but so what, I am in CR. I like what you said about negotiating the fee and maybe even get them to waive it. It is worth a shot.

looking foward to maybe seenig some fellow crters at the san tomas. i here its pretty good. i spicifically asked them about any taxes or conversion fees. There reply was that the stated price is in us dollars and its complete of all taxes. so if quoted 55.00 on check in it would be 55.00 us dollars paid in advance at check in. so thats good. i can just give em cash. they then want a cc or cash deposit for the chica fees. lol. i tried the im a crt memebr and love to talk about my good experiences and i shouldnt have to pay a chica fee. they said they charge the fee for everyone. even if you bring a man or lady to the room. hehehe. They also stated that anyone without proper photo id will be allowed into the rooms and only one guest is allowed at a time. but they also do not mind the hotel services being used by the guest also. I.E. you and your favorite would like to go to the pool, rest. or bar.

Those gringo fee's are terrible...but I guess if you have a place to stay that's all you need. In terms of seeing crt members, prolly not to many at that place. Better to hang at the lodge or somewhere like that..

We'll see ya there!

I've always been a big fan of the Morazan. It's relatively inexpensive, 1 minute to HDR and KL, 5 min from SL and HLH, no chica fees (they can add up over a weekend), and the staff is very cool. Only drawback are the Asian, chain smoking gamblers that seem to linger in the casinos forever with smoke everywhere. But I don't stay there for the card games.... :P
