Right now though you can depart from all over the country (Cleveland, Denver, Boston, DC, etc) for similar prices and on a number of airlines (AA, CO/UA, Spirit, Jet Blue, USA 3000, US), base fares are as low as $200 and still less than $300 after taxes.

Doesn't appear to apply to ORD. I'd actually like to fly into LIR some day and venture around a bit. Maybe hit arenal on the way to SJO.

USA 3000 out of ORD shows flights as low as $262 all-in but I'm not seeing any availability at even twice that price. Take the Megabus to cleveland and fly out of there
