Thanks for addressing the van driver issue. That was my biggest complaint! I would not have posted anything if that had not happened. It was just the culmination of issues that went over the top!

If they can get the wireless issue resolved or be able to identify sections where wireless will work, you will see me back. Thanks

Well for a guy that seems to have his pulse on what is going on in San Jose I think you have your facts abit mixed up Uh, thanks, Hank :)

Fire the cook at SL  ... you want the job ... or have a better cook in mind.. Yes the food is not top shelf but pretty good given the size of the kithen and the volume

Simply saying, after numerous meals (and reading numerous posts how good their food is), I'm just saying I don't care for it - I've had lunches, dinners, main courses, soups, etc - and I just don't like it - nor should I be the one to have to cook it, but if I'm the one paying for it, my opinion and taste are the ones that matter - for me - also, its not my job to hire the cook

"Yes the food is not top shelf " See, if you only stopped here, we could have been in complete agreement, Hank :D  :)

I can mix and match from all things on the menu... and a few that are not to build the meal I want 9:00 am -10:30 pm :D

As far as the vans go Gato and his brother and the other 1 or 2 have been known to rape the gringo... the tico way... make the deal first even if you think all is cool

To the guy that got hosed I am sorry, but you payed 10 bucks for a 2dollar ride... and you payed it estupido gringo

The van drivers are self employed and get what they can get..Bill has enough BS to deal with

Not the case, Hank - if you are representing the hotel by driving a van with the establishments name on it, your actions reflect on the business - the guy taking a ride and getting ripped off only knows he took a van that had "Sportsmans Lodge" on the side - he did not consider the nuances of the employement status (employee, independent contractor, brother in law of the front desk clerk, etc) of the driver - may not matter because Bill has promised in another post to rectify the situation

As to the internet problems... sure the front desk said yes.. the place has internet as long as ICE or another provider are not having problem... Did you ask about your software progam in advance....

Disclamer... I only give money to the Esportsmans and they are happy to take it

The 20 cents is not the issue. The calls were to find another hotel! To pay $10 to go no more than 1 mile is robbery!!! They knew it at the desk when they told me they had someone who would take me. A local taxi would have cost me at the very most $2.00. It was like, since he was leaving, let us hit him for some more money!

Other than the food, which I don't like, the Sportsmans is a class place - and many guys on this board LOVE the place.

I have no doubt you had an issue w/ WIFI - but re the van, are you shure it was THEIRS, and the driver a Sportsmans employee....not trying to piss you off, but I wonder (too, you could have asked what the charge would be, or have done what I have on a few ocasions and just handed the driver what I thought - fairly - the ride was worth). They really are focused on service at that place (and if they could get another cook......)

Hey Bill - your phone is ringing - what's the deal?

Hey my man Scuba1...I am answering.

Most people who I ask or want to tell me, say that our food is great??? To each his own, however we will strive to get better at everything we do ALL the time. Wireless can be spotty at times but not often...we have had some router setting issues in the past that I was assured are correct now. Have 30 guests at SL most days and rarely do we have a complaint at all..20 cents for local calls, ouch sorry. I will call ICE and see if they can give us a better rate.

I have sent a copy of the van driver complaint to the people who handle this for me. We will let them know "not to gouge" or bye.

Thanks, Bill - the way you respond is why you have built a sucessful business :)

Re the food, we are just going to have to respectfully disagree - but I love your bar, and think your staff is great! :)

Thanks Scuba1,

I know as in many other issues this can be subjective in how we feel or like certain things about a restaurant (taste, ambiance, service, presentantion, selection, prices etc).

If you have time please send me menu ideas or other things that you can recommend to me so that we can get better, PM me and I will honestly consider each and every idea you might have to improve our restaurant section of our hotel.

Thank you for your interest in SL.

All the Best,

Bill

I did not complain about the $80 van fee because I felt it was my fault for not discussing it up front. lessoned learned

I love the SL and I am glad to see Bill watches the board and cares.
Thanks for everything Bill.

Isn't it "Different strokes for different folks"? Or something along those lines... :D
I don't have a dog on this fight, but even though I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night; when in San Jose, I call the SL home. I love the food and most of the time what I order is not even on the menu, a combination of two or three different plates, I get exactly what I want and no dissapontment. I've been to better places to eat, but have also eaten at much worse places. One thing I would love to see in the menu is "chifrijo"...might have misspelled that.

Maybe we need a poll to figure out who's in and who's out.

Speaking from personal experience from 4 stays at the SL- You have probably never caught a 30-45 lbs. dorado, taken it back fresh to the SL- had the SL chef cook put his GREAT garlic glaze on it and grill it to perfection as I have!!!! All the other meals I have had have been really good and I have treated a number of the chicas to breakfast, lunch or dinner and have NEVER had a problem with the quality of the food. To each his own - just saying my experience!! plus Bill is a stand-up guy!
