Just booked a flight from LAX to SJO on Delta for only $392. (Outbound on May 30th and return on June 6th)
I’m sure this will seem expensive to those of you on the East Coast.
But, this is the lowest fare I’ve paid in almost two years. (Sept. ’09 was $342 on TACA)
The Delta flight has a two hour lay-over in Atlanta both ways…for a total travel time of about 10 hours each way…unlucky.
The non-stop TACA flight (about 7 hours) is running around $625 at the moment…ouch.
So, I think I’ll sacrifice a few hours of drinking in the Atlanta Airport for a $200+ airfare savings.

For you Left Coast guys, now might be a good time to plan your next visit to CR.

I hear ya' Diablo...5 1/2 hour non-stop would be nice.
But right now, the TACA non-stop is running at $748 for the same time period.
Besides, the non-stop TACA flight is a red-eye that arrives in San Jose about 9:30 am.
(My son hates driving me up to LAX at midnight.)
Also, a little tough to check in a your hotel that early in the day.

So, I still think the extra travel time is worth a $350 savings.

no question that makes you think. i usually book depending on when i can find cheaper flights. if you need a specific time thats an entirely different story. safe travels, see you on the plane someday. :!:

I live in Atlanta and I would love a $400 ticket on Delta, they charge me from $700 to $900. I hate Delta!!

Atlanta will never get better as long as Delta is the only non-stop to SJO. It doesn't make any sense that someone can fly from LA and get on the same flight as me and I pay twice as much..

not really. no american carrier flies nonstop to CR from LAX. only Lacsa, the CR's only airline.

SR

that may have changed. but i have definitely flown AA direct from LAX in the last four years.

I have covered ways around this and vented fairly well here about this. One way is to book a 'Multi-City' ticket but you cant check bags on the return flight.

You book your ticket from ATL-SJO and the return SJO--JFK or ERW or whatever city has a sale going. And simply exit the airport in ATL on the return leg.

This way you get the sale price on the return leg. I did this quite a few times .

Now that I live here and don't travel that much, I use miles that I accrue in business but I use 60,000 miles so I can have first class allowing me to return with 3 70pound bags, one carry on, one computer bag and a 'shopping' bag.
