I am booking flights and was wondering if anyone can help concerning a Customs question.

I leave SJO and have a 1 hour layover connection in El Salvador continuing to LAX. Do I have to go through customs in El Salvador, then catch my flight to LA? If so is 1 hour enough time? Thanks for any help..

NO. You will go through Customs in LAX. In SAL, you will deplane, take a seat (go to bathroom, get a drink, etc), then re-board the flight home. It may even be the same plane, but you still have to get out and re-board. I've done the SAL layover about 10 times. 60 minutes is about 55 minutes more than you need. TACA (you're on Taca right?) is almost always on time, so you won't miss your connection.

Tiny airport. You will probably re-board a few gates down. Be prepared to be sniffed by a dog a few times.

Make sure to check all your luggage before you leave. One of your friends may have accidentally stuffed a bunch of dog biscuits or beef jerky in your suitcase. The dogs will go apeshit and you'll get roto-rootered.

Btw... I have never seen any dogs in SAL in at least 10 layovers there.

After reading my post I should have said Immigration rather than customs. I assume I still do not go have to go thru Immigration either.? So my 1 hour layover is OK...

No, you only need to go thru immigraion at US ports of entry, mainly when you land in the US. (There are some POE's in other countries, i.e. Bahamas, Bermuda, Ireland, Canada, not El Salvador  )

I would fly through San Jose and San Salvador 10 times before I would fly through LAX.

You should have no problems at San Salvador, but I would be impressed if you go from boarding door to your car in less than 1.5 hours at LAX.

SR

I agree that flying into LAX can be a bit slow.
I think a lot of it is because a couple of flights land at Terminal 2 within a few minutes of each other...adding a couple of extra TSA agents might help.
I'm curious SR...what airline are you flying out of SD?
Is it direct?
I kinda like Lacsa/TACA...Red eye from LA arrives at 9:30am... They feed me...free cervezas...no charge for my checked bag...no problema.
Salud,
