Thanks for the info Paco ... is this an alternative or change of pace place for an obvious gringo like me to hang out at for the night ... or will I be much the oddity there and the women will avoid me like the gringo plague? I do know a little Spanish

From what I've read, Castro's is a at least a Gringo-accepting and for most, a Gringo-friendly place...although as always flaming drunk Gringos need not apply. i don't know that Ticos are any better or worse than anybody else at judging the many by the few, but conduct myself so as not to be one of the few.

I believe he is the general manager. As recently as late January of this year (2010) I had this email exchange:

"Good morning, The rate is $52.00 iclude taxes and breakfast. The safe key is $3.00 at night. One friend can be with you free, but if you take two friends in the same time you have to pay extra person $25.00. I am the low rate in the area and good Hotel for you. For reservation I ned some credit card number and expire day. I need you last name, too. Thank you, Jose Troyano, General Manager"

However, it concluded here:

"Ok. yes I have room with a/c Good internet in third floor, hot water. My best price for you is $47.00 (casino Rate) no breakfast only taxes. Thank you."

So when sending the fellow an email, suggest you mention the "casino rate". also where I put at you put @ to make the email address work correctly.

Steve, i believe this Jose doesn't work there anymore, he's at the Europa, but i will email him non the less, he may have a better contact than the bogus emails i have from the morazan, neither of them work!

That's all the info I have. My last email from the fellow was in late January, 2010.....that really wasn't so long ago. If the "Jose" you're referring to changed jobs AFTER January, 2010, perhaps they are one in the same. I dunno because I don't stay at that place. It's always good, in my view, to gather as much intel as you can prior to any trip so that the number of options you have for yourself increases.

Irrespective, my money says that you should use the email address and see what happens. Good Luck.....

I like the place. Jose was the manager, last I knew and was always very helpful. No chica fee, free breakfast and Tico prices...well almost on the 2nd floor bar and restaurant. Years ago it was the Hotel Amstel, stayed there on my first trip back in 1991. When the Key Largo was the place and the Rey was not as we know it now.

Jose is no longer the manager . we were there the first of the month. He is at the Europa. It is a few blocks away I think it is on Calle 3. Both hotels are owned by the same .Breakfast is ok but order extra bacon because the free breaksfast comes with one piece of bacon. The elavator has been working the last 20 times that I have stayed there. It was a issue back in 2003 -2005 but has been working lately.Yes you have to put up with Ricky that is the only drawback I have with the hotel. Give him $5 and he leaves you alone. Hell he even lets me use his cooler and fills it with ice.Location is great.

Ok.....Ok......Ok.....even though I don't stay at this hotel, I have sent Jose an email asking what hotels he CAN book for and if he can no longer book for Morazon to please provide me a name and contact phone and email address. My request was sent moments ago....so I hope I get a reply on Monday, June 21. Once I get a reply....I will pass it on......

Still....La Amistad is a better deal as is Castillo......but to each their own.....

I've stayed there three times now. Yes I agree to all the minues but the biggest plus is the location. Also on my last visit in January, noticed a young hot looking maid on the 2nd floor. Anyone got any info on her?

Just booked for next week and was told the rate is now $57, breakfast and taxes included. Wish I had known about their "Casino" rate. But who goes there to gamble? They should have a "F*cking rate" instead!

Castro's has nothing to do with the Hotel Morazan...and everything to do with the query Brother Traveler had posed earlier on (top of this page). My last post gave him an alternative venue and source of more entertainment info.
