So im looking at the flights im going to have to take to San Jose and practically all of them involve me having a layover in Panama. Now i know this is silly because its only an hour at best (what could happen in an hour?). But im concerned about safety. I know im being paranoid but in traveling to these other countries do you find that most airports are relatively safe?

I am posting this while my maid is taking my current GFE out for 'personal' items.
It may be time to get rid of her. Just kidding!

I have spent a lot of time in Panama, and the only time that airport was unsafe was when my troops invaded it to capture Noriega.

Coqui...some of your posts are really curious to me. For someone from Puerto Rico...you should know more than most about these things. IN addition, the current cheapest flight out of San Juan is on American through Miami. Only COPA runs through Panama...because it is a Panamanian airline.

Sorry to raise the question, but between your multiple newby polls and strange questions...I have to wonder what your agenda is?

And yes, Panama airport outside of foreign invasions is a very safe and easy airport to get in and out of. I just got here yesterday.

We have Coppa in Puerto Rico it flies to Panama and certain latin american countires. I can either take a flight from American Airlines to Miami and then San Jose or i could take a flight via Coppa to Panama and then San Jose. Check Travelocity if you dont belive me.

I have only been to the airports in Mexico, Alcapulco and Dominican Republic, every so often you hear rummors of muggings in certain airports of certain latin american countires. Just wondering if this (like my gut was saying) is pure bullshit or does it have some truth to it.

Your paranoia is starting to become tiresome. What are you afraid of? Ask Admin if you dont belive me of my identity.

Coqui,

Unfortunately I have to back up Tman on this one.

I mean, it is kind of a strange question, what difference does it make the Panama airport or San Jose in terms of security? would you feel safer going through Miami airport? Forgive me but I just felt a bit of "third world country" though from you end, and specially you being from PR.

Lo siento mi hermano, pero no te entiendo. no hay nada que temer en el aeropuerto de Panama ni en el de aqui... yo que tu me preocuparia mas cuando camines en la calle.

Mente,

In every country you hear rummors and stories. Family members who have traveled to south america have told me that their luggage was stolen, a friend who flew to mexico said he was mugged at the airport, when i went to Santo Domingo our luggage was vandalized and our jewlry was stolen from our bag.

Now this was many many years ago. Things have changed. Especially since 911. But whenever i fly to an unknown airport i have jitters. I hated asking this question since i knew this would be the result because being from PR i hate it when people say the term "Third World Country" but i felt it would be best to ask to satisfy my peace of mind.

Coqui...I have no reason or agenda to feel paranoid. But...you are obviously educated and well versed in both Spanish and English. I would think you would be less paranoid yourself about traveling in this region. No insult intended...but some of your posts are confusing as to where you are coming from. Just the way I see it from here.

As a general rule there is no place, in any country, that is safer than an International Airport. There are more police, both those you see and those you do not see, per captia than any where else in the country.
Relax enjoy the trip.
