This post should really be in the Hotel Section

Yes Cocal is chica friendly.

I wouldn't walk alone at night in Jaco.

Girls will make you spend the colones on a taxi back to the Cocal they hate to walk in heals.

Do a search on cocal and you'll get lots of info that has already been posted about the Hotel Cocal.

Beattle Bar is now charging $6 cover and pressuring the chicas to hit you up for a drink. Their drinks are overpriced. Take colones to the BB. They give a shitty conversion rate if you pay with dollars.

They are really pissing off the guys and the girls.

I'm wondering when and where the next Jaco tuna market will be. :D

I stayed at Cocal for a few nights just before New Years...
I liked the Cocal...But if you get one of the higher rate rooms...don't get either Room #1 or #2.
They are located closest to the beach, and are bare bones...no phone, TV or fridge.
Ask for a 2nd floor room over the casino...newer rooms...good view of pool...and these rooms have the all-important fridge...gotta keep those cervezas cold!!!

I found that walking around Jaco at night is very mellow...Not anywhere near as intense as San Jose.
Only people approaching you...usually just want to sell you some herb...I find this to be a great public service.
True...If you've found a friend...she'll want a taxi back to your room...But for just wandering around solo...no worries.

If you're in the BB....look for a thin little Tica named Belkis...
I had a blast with her my first night in town...ran into her walking around town the next day...took her to lunch...
very cool girl...down to earth...she even paid for a second round...Something I've never experienced in San Jose.

Besides the BB...you will always find a few girls trolling around the pool bar at Cocal...mostly in the evening.
If Luisa is working at the bar...Tall Columbian bartender...she can offer a few recommendations or even make a few calls to improve the numbers.
Tip her well, and she will definitely hook you up properly.

Hope this helps...Enjoy your trip.

Nastrovia,
-sport

Thinking about getting 3 rooms at the Cocal in May. I asked for 3 deluxe rooms and was given a choice of eater ocean view or parking lot view. I think We are going with the ocean view unless anyone suggest something different. Thanks for all the info 67Supersport, one question are the rooms on the 2nd floor room over the casino standard or deluxe rooms. Thanks Rock

I disagree. I always try not to give any scumbags a chance to rob me. Walking alone at night (anywhere in CR) is doing exactly that.

I've stayed at Cocal a few times and I generally like it. It's bare bones, but has security and checks the chicas at the gate. The restaurant has a fabulous view and is great for breakfast and lunch. It's kind of like a motel 6 in a world class location. There are almost always a couple of descent chicas at the pool bar in the evening and one or two bartenders are available. Take a cab back from the Beetle Bar after dark!! BTW, the Beetle Bar sucks! It's high pressure from the chicas and hard to just relax and enjoy drinks. I would rather be at the Del Ray.

If you are looking for several rooms I would recommend checking out the Vista Mar condos that are in the same complex as the Cocal. Me and my wingman have stayed there three times now and they are incredible. They are three bedroom, but you can usually get the rate as if they close off one of the rooms however they give you the entire condo. The view from any of the rooms from the 3rd floor up are incredible. I think we normally pay in the $200-$225 a night rate and the condos are close to 3,000 square feet. There are no Tica fees and they keep the girls IDs while they are up in the room which adds a layer of protection. We are planning a trip for May and look forward to going back.

Here's a reasonable general map of Jaco. The Cocal isn't listed but it can't be tough to find. The Beatle Bar is listed. Followed by the hotel's Website.

I really liked the condos at the Cocal - check them out if you have someone to split the cost with, it is a really nice option.
