Today I phoned Hotel Morazan to make reservations for 5 weeks from now. (I quit staying at Pres because of their 2 women policy.)

I spoke with the day manager, with whom I have done business on two previous occasions, and was informed that Morazan no longer accepts reservations over the phone. He said he would fax me a form which I would have to complete and fax back.

The form requires a photocopy of my credit card—both sides, including backside code numbers. I hesitate to transmit my credit card over a fax line to CR—especially to a place with a reputation for phucking reservations. My credit card is supposed to be protected against unauthorized charges, but this seems to be courting danger.

I have never run into this before. I this kind of thing becoming common in SJO?

Advice?

"Don't Do It"

I had a similiar exerience before with them and they are not the most competent.. it took me a small battle to get an over charge taken off

I had to even deal with that fat guy ricardo who I cannot stand.... in the end.. I ate $40.00

They recently fired diego.. and the pretty girl kristina for stealing money.. they fired ricardo also but brought him back since they had no physical proof.

all in all I would not trust the morazon with that kind of information... there are better run places that would never steal your money..

good luck....

by the way.. my fax number is......... :D only kidding

I've stayed at the Morazon many times and have enjoyed it (I like the
junior suite corner unit on the fifth floor with the jacuzzi in the bano). The
hotel indeed has long been known for their reservation problems. On a couple of occasions, I made my reservations over the phone, giving them
my credit card number and expiration date.

On two occasions while making reservations to stay at the hotel Parador in Manuel Antonio, they requested that I fill out a one-page form that they faxed to me. This included my credit card number and signature. I was
not asked for a photocopy of the credit card. I would be leery about sending them a photocopy of the card.

Can think of no legitimate reason they would need a photo copy of your credit card, especially the back, which would show how you sign the invoice.

I would respectfully decline.

I sent the photocopy back in December. I was desperate to find a room on short notice. Festival of Lights was that weekend and everywhere was booked. I have yet to have any problems. However, looking back on it and after reading these posts, probably not a good idea. But, to this date have yet to have a problem with unauthorized charges. Although, I still think they charged me a chica fee when King Costa came up to my room. LOL J/K

Don't do it. Most hotels only require you to give them your credit card number. That should be enough already. Sending them a copy of your credit card both front and back is just not a good idea. In order to make some purchases legitimate, a thief needs that 3 security numbers at the back of your card for verification.

Just this super bowl party weekend 2 CRT members told me that the Morazan hotel had lost their reservations even with their credit card reservation. They will not be staying there again. There's too many complaints I have with the Morazan that it would take me a couple of pages to write about. One good example is that they wanted to make a photo copy of my Passport in order for me to get the cash from their ATM machine. Usually they would just ask to see it to verify you are the same person using the ATM. There's no way I'm going to let them make a copy of my passport.

The funny thing is that this practice is not consistent. I used the ATM machine several times before and sometimes I was not asked to show any form of ID, sometimes I need to show my passport, but never been asked to make a copy of my passport. A dishonest employee can sell the photo copy of any passport and then someone else can make a fake passport with all the correct information.

The fax thing is standard at a lot of hotels down here. I've never heard them asking for photocopies though. They do have crazy laws about taking reservations and credit card info over the phone. I guess a lot of hotels have found a way to get around it. These gulch hotels are getting a little uppity now that they have so much mongering business. Another reason I like the Sportsmen's. They operate in a professional manner and are not constantly coming up with problems and changes all the time. All in all, wouldn't trust them with that much info. I have stayed there and like the hotel, but there is a shady feel to it.

There is no reason for a fax.
They can verify the number with the Visa or MC or Amex people.

I would look at alternative hotels.
The Gran Hotel Costa Rica or the Europa.

PartyInTime,

Did you mean the Gran Hotel Costa Rica or the Gran Via?. Have never heard of the Gran Hotel Costa Rica being chica friendly. They did change owners about 6 months ago, has their policy changed? Anyone have any info?
