Bbeauzic> Hotel Johnson is nowhere in the same league or neighborhood, so lets not mislead any newbys here.

There are plenty of reviews on both Amon Plaza and Sportsmens Lodge on this site for you to read and make up your own mind. Just hit "search" at top of this screen and write in the top box "sportsmens" and another search for "amon plaza". Plenty of return threads for each. Both hotels have websites to review also. http://www.hotelamonplaza.com/eng/hotel_eng.html and www.sportsmenscr.com

I just stayed at Hotel Johnson and it is very basic. It is kind of clean at least the bed seemed to be but a bit basic for me and I am a budget traveler. It does have good security the bed was comfortable and hot water but no where remotely close to outher places mentioned.I did find a much better and quite nice place up the street for $24 per night which I just posted under this section.rbc100

Hotel Castillo is half way in between the Sportsman's Lodge and Amon Plaza. That's where I'd pick, particularly if you stay for a while.

I just stayed at Amon and wouldn't stay anywhere else on my next trip. Besides--it 1 block away from ZB. What more could you want.

No offence intended but have any of you who rave about the Amon etc ever stayed at the Sportsmens? It would seem hard for me to compare something to another if I hadn't tried both!!

I have stayed at the Amon Plaza on several occasions and had lunch at the Sportmen's and was given a tour by the Canadian manager of the rooms and the facilities.

In my opinion comparing them is like comparing Soup to Steak. They are two different type places entirely.

Amon is a business class Hotel (Clarion) brand with everythign that is associated with that. Its has been reviewed enough to know what that means. If not for the CRT discount the prices would not even come close to the budget of the standard monger traveler as it is catered towards the professional business traveler.

From what I saw at the Sportsmen's I would compare it to a Very high class B&B type place. Wonderful helpful staff, nice rooms, clean, nice restaurant and bar and a very laid back establishment with a moderately priced room program.

No way to compare a 4/5 story Business hotel with a Great Bed & Breakfast. Both have their perks, and depending on the individual travelers needs, or preferences, then that is how a decision can be properly made.
