...I forgot how quick you have to post here before being timed out..I found some nice hotels in Pto. Viejo in Limon, without A/C. I am a big fan of creature comforts after spending so many years sleeping in muddy holes in the ground courtesy of Uncle Sam.

Any brothers ever stay in Pto. Viejo without A/C in the hotel? How was it?

Cheers,
CH

You will need a fan for sure. It stays hot most of the day and throughout the night. Around 2:00 am, it cools off and stays that way until around 8:00 am. A nice cool shower before hitting the rack helps.

It is about 5-10 degrees cooler up the hill. It is a very nice property.

For a closer look at the property Brother Baqueta mentioned, see:
www.cashewhilllodge.co.cr
Among the amenities is high-speed WiFi. They prefer 5+ day stays and push a vegan agenda.

WOW--We go months without a mention of Pto. Viejo then 2 Threads in a week! This is great! 'cuz I like the place--and no slam on Brother Crazyhorse0017 either. Congrats actually.
Here's the other one--tons of good info there:

Here is a good link with all the most recent accommodation listings. They also are conveniently linked to reviews on Trip Advisor.

http://puertoviejosatellite.com/stay.php

The site also has very good comprehensive information about the whole area (weather, maps, photos, videos, etc)

If you have the time and the stamina, ask about jaunts to visit the Bri-Bri (the original Costa Ricans?). And the Sloth Sanctuary and...and...Tons of stuff to do for the active person. Of course sucking brewski's on the beach has it's charms too. Plus PV has a good 1-day music festival once a year and at least one nice small art gallery. Yeah, I like the place.

That's where the Kekoldi reservation is. Two years ago, I hiked with a couple of friends to a waterfall on the edge of the reservation. It made for a very chill afternoon...except for a pair of Kekoldi K*ds who kept throwing rocks into the pool at the bottom of the falls. I think my buddy, Jupi, who runs a tour service in PV, does tours to the reservation.

PV isn't for everyone, but it works for me. :)

Here's where i stayed just a few weeks ago and I had a GREAT time. The heat and humidity can be an issue but a good fan, a beer or two before bedtime and an ambien will have you sleeping like a baby. I LOVE the Puerto Viejo area although technically where I stayed was in Cocles.

If you've got the bucks, that's sure enough the place. Nice video and a good tune embedded in this site.

Just passing through Cocles, you would never spot some of these gems unless you knew about them ahead of time. From the road, Cocles appears to be a wild jungle that extends to the sea.

Blue Devil has it exactly right...and it's by design, to be as non-disturbing as possible. That's where sites like TA can be valuable for the listings and the narrative.
BTW, you might want to rent a bicycle if the Lodge has none for free--it's about 2 miles from "downtown" PV. And I highly recommend the Patagonia for beef--the folks there make sure the meat is to their Argentine standards as much as possible.
