I wonder if there is a way to obtian one of these units that isn't attached to a rental car - or if hand-held units will be available...

Do you guys really use GPS in San Jose? The Prolijo map is enough for me. :P :lol:

Prolijo has a map?

I've always used GR's map...


But YES, GPS would be nice when trying to get to the beach and other destinations! It beats the shit out of asking ticos for directions!

You can purchase it direct from them. This is the reply I received from ezfindercr when I inquired.

Between GR's excellent map and my wingman the Clam I have never had a problem getting around (but I have never ventured outside the gulch either). :oops:

It has very little value to the average monger. For someone who lives here and owns a car who wants to travel around the country it is well worth considering. Costa Rican roads have very little signage and most maps leave a lot to be desired.

I agree, it's basically useless in town. But driving to beaches and Volcanoes can be a challenge if you listen to Tico directions, or try to follow one of those fabulous maps that they have...

I really could have used a GPS on several occasions where I've ended up COMPLETELY lost, and somewhere near a volcano with no idea how to get there.

I have used the Ezfind map on my Garmin Nuvi and was impressed. The detail was very good. One of the things that I liked was that when my Spanish broke down and/or a cab driver didn't know where a place was I'd switch it to Spanish and it would take him there the quickest way. Fully charged, you have a couple of hours of use without the cord.

I like driving in the countryside, just meandering about then having it show me back the the SL with no problem. I also have an older E-trex, and it works OK for what it is, but it has trouble with signals in areas walled in with tall buildings.

The one with the most toys wins.
