As soon as you step off the bus, you should see taxis. Make sure to take a licensed red taxi (with yellow traingle on door). There are many gypsy cabbies in that area too. They are usually ok, but why risk it.

Coca Cola is not in a good neighborhood. Make sure you watch your bag every second while on the bus and be off the bus quickly to retrieve your bag if the driver has it in the lower compartment. There are scores of people who specialize in getting your stuff before you do. Getting a taxi will be no problem....as they are everywhere.

Having taken the bus many times, Orange and GM are both correct. The gypsies,or pirata cabs are usually OK as long as you establish a price beforehand--they typically try to ask 2 to 3 times a normal rate, and make sure there is not another guy in the cab--could turn ugly. I have arrived at CocaCola at various times, and at night, sometimes there are not many taxis available, so I will take whatever is there to get away from the area as quickly as possible

As correctly pointed out by BangBang57 in a previous thread the bus station for the bus to/from Puntarenas is not the Coca Cola bus station. The bus station is located on calle 16 between avenida 10 y 12. It not a good area and a taxi is recommended.

The bus station itself is reasonably safe....just getting there though you should take a taxi...the station is in the SW part of the city,,,its a bit sketchy and not a tourist district...and not really walking distance from the gulch...

Make sure they have a meter in the cab and that the meter is working.
