Thinking about making a trip to Costa Rica in April and renting BMW 650 motorcycles to travel through the country for a week.

Anyone ever do this? If so can you recommend a rental agency, any concerns for this type of adventure?

I'll be interested in hearing how your trip comes out.

I hooked up with the M 14 motor club in San Jose one time and have seen HOG groups riding to Jaco. In the states, I have have done a lot of touring on a Harley. there is also a Harley rental place in Escazu.

Your trip will definitely be an adventure on the back roads with the very big pot holes, paved roads turning into graveled roads, trucks almost hitting you in the mountains, animals, road debris, rain, mudslides, etc. I have traveled over most of CR and you don't see many touring bikes. Around the villages and in SJ you see bikes but they are used for transportation.

I just bought a BMW 650 down here. THere is a BMW dealership out in Curradabat, but I havent been there yet. Dont know if they rent or not, but will try and find out for you. I need to check them out anyways. I also have a cycle dealer friend here who can probably hook you up with bikes. I might be interested in a tour also when you come. Keep me posted.

I will definitely keep everyone up to date on the plans. I think that we may be moving towards KLRs or DR350s since they are cheaper! Need to save some money for the mongering.

Been doing some research and looking forward to ZB, BM, etc. First time to CR, but not the first for the sport. Been to Thailand, Amsterdam, Prague, and Canada. Each has had some really good things, I expect that Costa Rica will as well!

PacoLocos's 1st link appears dead; the 2nd one is live.
In addition, I believe The White House Hotel and Spa rents/has tours on Harleys, though they are liable to be pricey. Check www.whitehousecostarica.com
N. B. This is not an ad for them-just info.
