Another benefit to the Hotel Castillo is the proximity to NF & ZB :D

it looks like your tring to make the same decision as me. im gonna go with either vista linda or the castillo, both have in room safes but the Vistalinda is cheaper.

http://www.hotelcastillo.biz/

in room safe, centrally located

does castillo have security, a gate, a front desk?

http://vistalinda.webcindario.com/frame.htm

safe, locked gate, 24 hour security, small tica fee

hows the neighborhood here?

Vista Linda is my usual home in San Jose. I like the neighborhood. It is a working class local nieghborhood. Not upscale by any means but OK neighborhood. A few local stores and few little restaurants in the area. I wouldn't walk around late at night but plenty safe during the day. Never had a chica fee there and have made lots of freinds there.rbc100

I think it is weekly for a minimum, but the weekly rate is still cheaper than 2 nights at SL or some of the others.

I am staying there 7/3-18.

I am tempted to try for a longer stay at the rates they are offering. I am not sure I can take an entire week off of work though.

Even if you don't stay for a week, pay for a week and leave when you need to, it would still be cost effective.

Bear in mind, no bar, no breakfast, (just coffee) and not too close to the action. A taxi or the bus is available though and there are small restaurants, I hear, close.

Take care,

my best " low rent " rate was the Scotland apartments but that was based on one month, $ 350 + kitchen supplies $ 100 , so $ 450 for a month.

Next trip probably will be shorter , so the Prez, SL or this Amistad place.

My point today is , as far as crime : my worst crime related story involves
my wing man's wife getting a knife pulled on her at the 7-11 in Vancouver
the day they picked me up.
Crime is a numbers game to a point, I really don't see the point in finding the ultra cheap place in CR only to suffer for it later.
as always, keep an eye out , and do your best to be safe , no matter were you stay.

Fiedler.

If I am gong to pay for a few days I don't need, I would rather just pay more for a real hotel close to the action. I may do this yet, my trip length is still up in the air. If I stay for 5 days I will go this route.

How are the standard rooms at Castillo? They don't come with AC, but is it needed?
