Yes, I have stayed there 3 times and it's my favorite place to stay for a bunch of reasons including what you mentioned about the desk clerk etc.

Do a search, there are a bunch pf reviews including mine:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all,

I just got back from another CR trip and another stay at Casa Vino. I had to write up another review as me and a buddy had the best time ever at this place. We knew what to expect from our previous stays and had brought down CD's, DVD's and thanks to Tony had the apartment fully stocked on our arrival. What followed was 5 days of unbelievable San Jose living. The house in my opinion is the best option and one of the most reasonal pricewise anywhere, and the location just can't be beat. the girls love it and seem more relaxed there, plus it's fun to watch them dance next to a life-sized Shakira when you play her DVD on the wall size TV screen.

We also had some Ticas cook us breakfast in the am after a night of fun, played poker with the set left by Tony and the steam room first thing in the morning got rid of alot of toxins I had accumulated the night before. Once again kudos to Tony and Casa Vino. I became aware that there were a couple of cancellations of longer term stays, so there should be pretty good availability. You won't be dissapointed

I've also stayed in the Exec Suite at Casa Vino three times now, and it's really the only other place I'll stay besides Sportsmen's. Especially if your wife is with you this time, you'll really enjoy the privacy and the extra space with the big living room and full wall projector. And like Bucs24 said, the girls seem to like the place a lot and tend to want to hang out with you there longer. But it does put an extra burden on you to either bring back only girls you can trust, or make sure you watch them at all times.

Note that Avenida 11 outside gets very busy during the morning and afternoon rush hours, so it can be a bit noisy. Fortunately, at night you can close off the bedroom with the sliding door - and the wall AC unit works well, so it's actually one of the quieter places to sleep among all the hotels.

The only other caveat is the lack of wireless or any other kind of internet access, necessitating a daily walk up to Sportsmen's. But who are we kidding - I would have been there every day anyways...
