via phone: Sunday after 5:15pm
via internet: Sunday after midnight

Just curious - Why?

I'd guess that it's all based on historical statistics. That must be the slowest times of the week, where reservation demands are their lowest.

You are most likely correct in that observation MG unfortunately that does not mean you will get the best price at those times. I read somewhere the best time to book for price is on Tuesday or Wednesday night just after midnight. Have no idea if that is good information and if it applies to all carriers or just a few.

Prices in the Airline Ticket market function just like any other commodity market. It is purely a function of supply and demand. Not only are airline tickets a commodity, they are a commodity that expires over time. For obvious reasons, demand tends to be lower in the late hours on Sundays for the simple reason there are fewer buyers in the market. Every airline is competing for the same lower number of customers during those low demand times. In an effort to keep their sales volume up, and expiring inventories at acceptable target levels , they entice customers with lower thier prices in order to compete effectivley for that limited number of buyers.
