The last time I telephoned to book there, they told me I must fax a photocopy of both sides of my credit card. I was not comfortable with a hardcopy of my card in their files, so I did not do it and have not stayed there since. Has anyone been asked to fax a credit card photocopy lately?

When I called to book two rooms for friends, a few months ago, they took the CC info over the phone. They DID NOT request a fax copy of the card. They did know I was a local and giving them CC card info that was not mine but belonged to one of the guys reserving a room. Perhaps that made a difference.

I am not sure it is really a place you really need to worry about an advanced reservation anyway.

I have noticed that Hotels are funny in Costa Rica about taking reservations in advance. The reason they want all that information is that they want to run the charge through in advance. It is very difficult to get any short of refund if you cancel or change your plans. The closer to your departure date you make the reservation, the more flexibility they will show.

Sportsman’s Lodge sells out, however I have done scores of drop ins in both Marazon and Hotel Castillo and never had a problem getting a room. I am not sure what the girls at DL would do if they could not get a room there on short notice at the Marazon.

Some of the standard rooms have been renovated and some have not.
