I recently posted that I was looking for short-term rentals in Escazu and some posters mentioned that I would want to be closer to the action. What about La Sabana? I have looked at the aparthotels and while Aparthotel El Sesteo looks nice, I would prefer to rent a more upscale condo. Does anybody have a websites to recommend or places?

Thanks.

Apartotel LaSabana is nicer and not much more expensive. It is on the Northeast side of the park.

El Sesteo upscale? No. Loud, drafty, lots of backpackers last time. But OK if you don't mind.

Ricon de valle is too small, probably only 8 rooms--everyone knows ur every move, one hallway, and walls are paper thin but you can use their big brother facilities which includes pool and exercise at their expensive brother--forget the name--on the main drag to the airport, very nice.

Tennis Club--nope!

LaSabana, nice, but please don't Phuck it up with the chica stuff--you can figure it out once your there a few days as to how to do it--espediallyif u have car because you drive in on the side and up u go and the desk may hear about it but won't caqre.

When you say short term, what do you mean? Personally, I am not sure it is so important to be that close to the gulch. Not unless you plan on pulling ticas out of there 4 or 5 nights a week. I prefer to keep my home life and my smut life separate. I live near Alajuala (which is further out than Escazu) and I just rent a room in the gulch for a night or two when I want to go have fun. Personally, I wouldn't trust any of the chicas in the gulch to know where I live. But that is just me.

When you are in a Gulch hotel it is a lot safer in a number of respects, especially for a first timer. The front desk will hold their ID until you escort them out. I take absolutely the least possible personal possessions when I go there (I don't even carry a wallet), so I have little or no risk of getting ripped off. I have heard rumors of Gringos getting killed by chicas of the DR that have taken them back to their apartments.

Plus I think it is easier to negotiate a good rate with the chicas if you are in a nearby hotel, it cuts down on their travel time. The first thing they ask you is "where are you staying"? There is a reason for that and it is not because they have any interest in you besides what you can pay them.

Then there is the fact that you are going to have to deal with people that aren't going to approve of your lifestyle. Even though it is none of their damn business, it can still create uncomfortable situations. Who needs that?

If you have a place in Escazu that you think you would be comfortable in, I don't see any reason not to take. It is a nice area.

Another area for you to consider if you want to be close is San Pedro. That is also a nice area.
