Im leaning toward the castillo suite. i just stayed at the SL but the no Tax and the discount at Castillo make it more appealing. SL is only a block a way.
Ive searched and would like to know more detail about the Castillo main suite? Hows it compare to the new wing at SL?

From what I saw at Castillo, nothing there compares to the new wing at SL.

We also get a discount at SL (10%) on room and bar/restaurant.

The new wing rooms at SL are gorgeous little rooms in a very nice environment. The suite at the Castillo is not new but is big and has everything you need- It has a LR and Kitchen and a huge tub/shower. You can't go wrong with either. The Castillo suite reminds me more of an apartment.

Thanks for the quick replies from all. I still will get my discount at the SL Bar/resturant when I go there. I think I will stay at the castillo bigger CRT discouny and tax free if you pay cash.

The extra money means more MP visits
Now I know the castillo suites is like a apartment it sound like a good room. I will still spend alot of time at the SL.

I still havent confirmed my suite at Castillo. I got my my room at The SL reserved right now. I did the math if I stay at the Castillo instead of SL I will only save $90. But the service and the people around the SL probably make it worth the extra $. I stayed at the SL 4 weeks ago and loved it there, but Im always down to see and try different places. I will make my final decision tomorrow where im staying...

Im more than likely keeping my reservations at the SL

Who stays at the Castillo and hangs at the SL most there trip?

The Castillo has been my hotel for the last 3 trips. It will remain my hotel forever. I don't hang at the SL though.

If you really want to try something different stay at the Hotel Asia. You could be the first CRT dude to ever write a review of the hotel... to my knowledge.

I always stay at Castillo and usualy spend my evenings at the bar at SL. It is a 90 second walk back, and 4 minutes on foot to ZB for my morning pick me up.

Castillo & SL are favorite spots (I have stayed at both). Over my past four trips, I lodged at Hotel Castillo and walked the 150 yards to have a drink, meet friends or meet a chica at SL.

If I were faced with your dilemma (and had a chance to save $90), I would select the Castillo master suite on the second floor of the old section. Although I never "slept" there, I have partied with my friends in Old #9 numerous times. The suite is perfect for "do-it yourself" parties and meals (which will also ease the burden on your wallet).

If you are still undecided, flip a 100-Colone coin...
no matter where you stay, I'm sure you will enjoy yourself.

Peace,

The

Can someone describe the "Castillo main suite"? I've stayed in the old rooms and in the new section over the Zoo (very nice), but this is the first I've heard of the main suite.

Before deciding what is the best place to stay, one should first consider how long the visit lasts. Although I often go to SL I suspect that it would be a poor place to stay for over a week, at least for me. I really want a kitchen if I'm staying for more than 2-3 days somewhere. The back downstairs rooms at the Castillo are OK for up to a month. For longer, I really would want better cooking capacity. I used to stay in an Aparthotel that had a nicer kitchen, but the location made it a much worse mongering location, so I kept looking. Every place is a compromise of some sort. For a short vacation I'll pay much more per night for a room than I will when staying for month(s), and different things are important. There is no such thing as the best choice with insufficient context.

Thanks for all replies, I know there no right answer it ones own opinion. I like to follow other peoples lead and other replies help me make my decision. I have no problem with money its the principle of being able to get a better deal on living and more money for play. I usually set a budget and like to stay within it

I will flip a coin and see what happens. SL was really good but there no saying Castillo is not reallly good unless I try it.

The unit is a small, comfortable apartment that overlooks Avenida 9.
The suite is on the second floor of the old section, last door on the left (Room #9). It consists of two large rooms (one is the living room/dining area and the other is the bedroom with adjoining bath). Both rooms are tastefully decorated.

The living room includes a sleeper-couch, chairs, coffee and end tables. (The couch converts into a surprisingly comfortable standard-sized bed.) There is a long dining table that will seat up to six people...plates, glasses, cups and silverware are stored in the cupboards. All pots, pans and cooking utensils are may be found here as well. Kitchen appliances include a refrigerator, micro-wave, range, toaster-oven and coffee maker.

The bedroom has a king-sized bed and plenty of room to unpack and set up shop for an extended stay. The adjoining bathroom includes a deep, oversized bath-tub that will accommodate a three-some. Moveable drapes cover the French windows in the wall separating the bedroom and living area.

IMHO, the unit is good value for an extended stay...especially when sharing accommodations and costs with a wingman.
