I just looked at their website and it appears they have raised their rates to $15.
Has anyone stayed here lately. and is it still a good deal for $15?

well, I think it is still a fair price.

but yes, it was a better deal at 10 dollars.

last september, I walked about the downtown area and inquired at some of the local Tico style hotels to check out their prices.

some of them had interior rooms with no windows and hallway baths for less than 10 bucks, but most rooms with private baths and windows were already charging more than 10 bucks.

I did find a 4 dollar a night rooming house for crack freaks on the north side of Zona Roja.

places like the SL, Presidente, ZB, Hotel M are all nice and are priced accordingly.

for the budget minded, I feel the the Hotel Nuevo Johnson is still a fair deal at 15 dollars. they do clean the room every day.

there are tons of other low rent options including furnished apartment style housing also.

many of our veteran thifty minded members recommend them highly.

and, I keep waiting for someone to write a review of the Hotel Asia just down the street from the Del Rey. not the short time rooms downstairs, but the long term rooms upstairs.

the days of the room with private bath for 10 bucks or less in downtown San Jose may have passed.
