To all:

Darren Rutherford was a true gentleman and emailed me explaining what was evaluated and done upon reading my review. The costs charged were correct according to the website, and the charges on the room were adequate to the type of room that I was given. Room #18 (which is a kitchenette suite) never has been, and never will be charged at $38, so I was misinformed. On this aspect of my original post, I openly recant the part of there being a possibility I was overcharged by the receptionist.

It would have been wise to approach management first with this beef...
Glad it all got "ironed out."

I have to agree

one is to quick to blurt things out instead of first taking with managment.. especially since they do offer a discount..

BlueDevil and Ticofrankie,

I would agree with you on this, had I simply made blatant accusations, but I hope that all take the time to read the whole thread to realize that I DID always maintain clear the facts that, #1, the rip-off conspiracy was NOT factual but something that was told to me by a long-standing customer of that very same hotel, and that #2, MY TRUE BEEF AND REASON FOR POSTING IN THE FIRST PLACE was that there were REAL issues with the room, such as insects... such as dingy sheets... such as strong odors of cleaning products... and that the price was not reflective of the quality of the room (which was independent of whether I was overcharged or not... in other words, I'd still have posted a negative review). I even conceded on the rip off conspiracy once Ticafan pointed out that the price charged to me was accurate, but still had issues with the price nontheless due to the problems I encountered with the quality of the room. I could have easily deleted or edited all prior posts (as a few tend to do on the board) but even now after the fact, I still stand firm on all that I stated in prior posts and think it's essential that information such as this gets brought out to the board for the betterment of all of us.

Thanks for reading.

how can a person make a good post at 3:06 a.m. ? How much had you been drinking before you posted ? Good advice is to not post when you are mad, tired or drinking.

Calm, sober and rested, buddy. I had just got in to Chicago from CR (flight got in to ORD around 11pm, I made it home well after midnight), so I had slept all day on the plane and hadn't had a drop of alcohol in well-over 36 hours, but thanks for your concern, insight, and for your well needed advice. For the record, it was 2:06am, but bygones. For the sake of maintaining my credibility among the non-VIP peanut gallery, I'll make sure not to post anything negative after 10pm from here on out...

First let me say that I am glad Ruff took the time to express his experince. We need bro.'s to do that. And we should be damm glad that Ruff takes the time to share the info with this board that he does.

That said, My last trip I stayed in room 18 lower level end room. I liked it. I was charged 68.00 cash a night paid in advance. When I arrived. It has the kitchen thing with sink and frig and coffee pot and silverwhare. I did not use any of that stuff. Only three days. I did like being able to open the big window and have air coming in all night and the table by the window. But the walkway to the bathroom goes by that window.

I like the upper level that is cheaper but still outside. It is not the kitchenette type. But if that is all they had I would take 18 again. As Ruff said Darren got in touch with him and did everything in a good bussiness manner. I can say all my dealings with the Castillo and Darren have been a pure pleasure because it has allways been that way for me.

I do agree with Ruff that the Castillo has its own personality. And I can see how he might get some of the impressions that he did. We all have our own taste. But I am glad you are a member of this board Ruff and I have read alot of your stuff. And as you said we have to give our honest opinon whether it is good or bad. That is what makes the board of value.

Oh I forgot that my little honey had an accident. That time of month. And Darren was great and did not make me pay for the new sheet. I gave them 4 bucks anyhow. And threw the sheet away. It's the little things.

Bertrand,
Welcome to the board.

You can sign up for a VIP membership here: https://costaricaticas.com/join.php
It's $39/year or $99/lifetime.

You get discounts at various places around town, see this: https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=17

It's $38/night at Hotel Castillo for the standard single room. I think he gives a bigger discount (25%?) for a longer (week) stay. You should contact the hotel directly: www.hotelcastillo.biz
