The presidente is not the same without the rail. they are remodeling and the place is shut down. the are doing some extensive work around the hotel and it's pretty noisy. and i usually don't have a problem with noise but it's ridiculously noisy.

the restaurant in now located in the casino. i just went down for some grub and it's an ice box in the place. i didn't bother to order food.

interesting to see a large group of non-mongering guest in the restaurant.

all my favorite waitresses are not around. they don't need too many employees without the news cafe being opened.

i do love my room, it's a beautiful suite. i could live in this place. it's perfect for me.

Why in the hell would they pick a busy gringo holiday weekend to do noisy construction work, unless it was an emergency? :? I hope it is something that can be fixed quickly because that cheap ass Paco will need his beauty sleep and his free breakfast. :)

No News Cafe???? That's half of the reason to stay at the Prez. They should be letting guest know ahead of time about the projects.

From the MGT of the Presidente!

Quote:
They are doing some major necessary work inside the kitchen (including fire sprinklers, gas lines, equipment, etc) and since they had to close to do it, they decided to do some cosmetics inside the restaurant. While they do this. They are serving breakfast in the Skybox, and leaving it open for lunch and dinner. Most of the News Café Staff on vacation.

The work is only done in the restaurant (not the entire Hotel), except for the extraction duct that runs all the way to the roof on the back wall of the corner building. Granted that installing the metal tube can get quite noisy, but it will be done soon and they won’t work on it early in the morning.

The rail will remain, and we planned for the work to be done by Friday if Possbile, (but they are prepared to close until Monday if necessary). They wanted to finish the changes before the Germany World Cup Soccer that begins June 9th, so all clients can better enjoy the games.

There is no good time to do construction since the hotel is full 99.9% of the time so these renovations and improvements are necessary for the overall of the hotel for now & in the future.

They are sorry for any inconvienience this may cause but are doing their best to improve the facilities.

Thanks for your patience!

We all know that time is a very relative thing here in CR. If the management of the Presidente is saying that they will be through with construction by Friday,my guess is that it will be at least a couple of weeks. With construction comes dirt,so perhaps management will consider dropping the "new" dress code for chicas during this period. It doesn't make good business sense to force the chicas to wear MORE clothing that will only get dirty. It is strange walking by the News Cafe in the morning and seeing it closed.

i woke up to more noise this morning. lots of banging and screaming of orders. from what it sounds like and knowing how things work in costa rica it's trail and error and hopefully things work out. unless they plan on working 24 hours around the clock to get the news cafe opened by friday it will be a miracle. the place is a shell at the moment.

I talked to Maria in reservations today and she said The News Cafe will be open on Thursday. Maybe one of the early birds can verify this statement tomorrow.

Well it isn't Thursday yet but looking into the place from the street today I would be suprised if they make it by tomorrow. It seems as though the work is done as far as I can tell, but it looks like there's a lot of cleanup and setup work yet to be done. If it was USA I would say they might make it. Going by Tico time I have my doubts. However, I will be back down that way again tomorrow probably so I'll check back.

Well they didn't make Thursday but the News Cafe was open this afternoon, Friday, May 26. They were still working feverishly earlier today, hooking up three TVs, including what looks like a nice wide screen one straight back from the bar. When I walked by later, around 2:00 pm, the place was packed with customers as before. And, again like usual, no room at the rail. I guess missing the deadline by only one day is pretty good for CR standards.

Thanks for the update on the Presidente. I will be there this Thursday night, so looks like the timing is good. Hope you are enjoying your trip there-
