I see that the Gran Hotel (not the La Gran Via, but the famous Gran Hotel next to the Teatro) is advertising a special. Do they still allow girls in there? If so, anyone know, at what price?

Years ago I took chicas in there and I think it was $10 per girl and they allowed 2. DO they still allow it, and if so has the price for permitting them in, still $10?

The Gran Hotel de Costa Rica was sold about 2 years ago. The new owners renovated the old dowager and it is now an official National Landmark.

As part of the refurbishment the new chica policy was introduced. No female guests allowed period. There is no fee because they will not allow them in the hotel. If you are going to stay there you will have to find other accommodations when you desire some company.

Thanks for the bad news

Well, if anyone here is looking for a place to stay minus chicas, they are offering a deal through Expedia - I think it was around $52/night as opposed to the usual $70 or so. I stayed there right before the renovation, and had a room overlooking the square. It was VERY quiet there at night, since the cops no longer allow people to hang out there at night. BIG room, with safe, nice...
