Content Review Standards

CRT appreciates your opinion, but more greatly values the practical information, helpful advice, and actual news that you contribute to the forum. We also like when members compliment and encourage those who contribute quality content. New members are also encouraged to post thoughtful questions.

If you disagree with an opinion or fact expressed by another member, then please refrain from making personal attacks. You may express your opinion in a thoughtful reply that speaks to the relevant points.

Please do not be unduly harsh of photos or forum postings that attempt to convey honest information or advice. The effect of such criticism is to discourage contributions, which diminishes the value of CRT for all the members.

CRT moderators will evaluate postings for quality, and may lock threads that are off-topic or seem to offer little value to the forum. Members are welcome to post thoughtful questions and provide feedback about the CRT program or the forum in general. However, once a specific issue has been addressed by management there is no need for continued discussion. Redundant and off-topic threads may be locked, deleted or relocated to another forum at the discretion of CRT.

You can access your posting history by going to User Control Panel, Show all your posts. In general your posting will be considered quality if it contains the following.

  • Practical information and travel tips
  • Helpful advice
  • Actual news of relevant events in Costa Rica
  • Compliments and encouragement of other member contributions
  • Thoughtful questions

In general, your postings will be considered low quality if they substantially contain unqualified opinions, off-topic comments, and harsh criticism of other member contributions.

Quality is important because in the event you violate the forum rules, CRT moderators will review both the post in question and your entire posting history.

CRT may either warn or ban you, either temporarily or permanently according to our evaluation of your overall contribution to the forum. Our method for determining the penalty is not open for debate and is subject to change. A banned user will see the length of their ban and reason when they attempt to access the forum.

In general, if a member violates the rules and a review of posting history shows other recent violations, then they will be banned without warning. Also, members who repeatedly violate the rules and contribute no quality content may be banned permanently or for longer periods than contributors.

In an effort to reduce spam, Non-VIP members with little or no posting history who post links to promote products and services will be immediately deleted and subject to IP address blocking. We generally assume these posters are really just spam-bots, but please email us if we make a mistake.

Please note that according the forum rules any public debate of a disciplinary action is not allowed. If you ask another member to “take your case” to the forum, then it is likely they will be joining you on the ban list. So, please make your appeals directly to administrators.
