Admin 3, Are we to assume that ALL of the people in the photos gave you written permission to use their photos on your public CRT commercial Facebook page? I recognize several guys in the background of the photos who are going to be really upset when they see their picture included on your Facebook page. I also doubt that even guys like Cuba Dave would like his real full name disclosed on your Facebook page -as it is now. Once Bill finds that his long ago ex-girlfriend's picture is included on your Facebook page, you may lose him as a sponsor. Then your membership will be really pissed off.

Also, several of the chicas in the photos have grown older and will likely be really upset when their friends tell them they saw their photo on the CRT Facebook page. People in Costa Rica know that CRT is a puta/monger website. Putting photos of chicas (or other guys sitting at the Del Rey bar) that were taken by guys who were CRT members at the time does not grant you legal permission to repost them on your CRT Facebook page.

Are you real sure that you guys thought this through, even in a techie to techie fashion? You might want to reach out to legal counsel both in Costa Rica and in the US before you find yourself defending yourself on a defamation charge. If you don't already know what that means in Costa Rica, just know that you have already stepped over the line and could find many of the chicas seeking both financial compensation from you and in Costa Rica the chicas can ask the court to put you in jail for 30 days. Bueno Suerte

Lennydo,

I can see you are a devoted CRT member. Indeed, you have made four posts in the last 24 hours on this subject. I can see this Facebook issue is important to you, so I will try to explain it better for you. I will do so publicly, as you have raised some issues that may concern other members.

All of the content on the CRT Facebook Page was or currently is on the free part of the CRT website. The photos you specially mentioned were part of the Free CRT Gallery, which on the old site was always open to the public. I agree, some people may be concerned with tagging, so we have prevented users from being able to "tag" photos on the CRT Facebook Page. However, to address your specific concern I have removed the Album in question from Facebook.

Your example, Cuba Dave is a good barometer on this issue. As you can see, he has a public Facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cubadave ... 0736144572

In addition Dave always uses his real name to make his many Facebook comments and in his Youtube channel. His blog, cubadave.com has extensive social media hooks, and even allows comments via Facebook. Dave just passed the 1,000 Likes mark on his Facebook Page. The popularity and success of his work on Facebook is one of the examples we considered in determining if CRT could have a social media presence. Indeed, the example of Cuba Dave and others shows just how conservative we have been in embracing this change.

You suggest frequently these are technical issues. However, the technology is actually very simplistic and in common, if not frequent daily use for most people. So, these are really social and cultural issues, and less as you mention technological issues. However, I understand why theses changes might cause you to feel unhappy. As I mentioned before, your participation is voluntary.

If you have any legal concerns, I would strongly encourage you to take them offline with me via PM.

Lennydo, I hope I have adequately addressed your concerns, and regret this new feature for CRT might have caused you any undue stress. Again, your concerns are important to me, so please do not hesitate to contact me via PM over the weekend should you have any further concerns.

man i never knew the extent of the divas on this board
i'm just not seeing it being such a big phucking deal
since the change of software the board doesn't crash as much does it?
it needs work still. they say they are doing it. if you can't stick around then so long.
these guys are making mistakes no doubt.
he says the pictures will be back. if they are then it is a site like no other. i notice a lot of the old images on the FB page.
but most of those women are not even around anymore. at least i never see them.
so what else is the big deal? i'm just not seeing it.
these sponsors need people coming to costa rica and patronizing their businesses.
i agree that FB is probably NOT going to be a boon for them but its fairly innocuous since its a public site.
in fact Matts idea of posters for strip clubs etc is pretty good. print some up and send them to LA and i'll get them out there. i don't go to strip clubs but i know the guys that own them.
imo its bigger than just the crt site. if the business doesn't pick up soon i think a lot of us will see the effects soon enough. a lot of these businesses are hanging on by a string.
would it kill you to think about where they are coming from?
don't like their phucking FB page. christ almighty.

As some of you have noticed CRT was recently able to add several new sponsors in Jaco. One of the things I have been hearing from potential and existing sponsors is what can CRT do to enhance their presence in social media? Coming from a business, this kind of questions are quite normal. After all, Facebook advertising is one of the fastest growing segments for Internet marketing.

Having a clean and attractive Facebook Page (and public main site) helps potential sponsors overcome the worry that something sordid is going on here. It very elegantly provides some cover for the more frank discussion that we have in the forum and member photo contributions.

So, while I can understand some members would prefer not to participate, this is a feature all of us benefit from in the way of new deals for all the VIP members. We are only asking for voluntary participation among those who feel safe to do so.

Gentlemen,

As a long time CRT sponsor and member I want to briefly chime in. Time will tell whether this drives new membership to this site that converts to guests at my hotel. I support new traffic and new hotel guests. If they also contribute in writing reviews and other info about Costa Rica, I say great. I do not have a FB page for Sportsmens Lodge nor do I think I will in the future, however I see this as potentially growing business through CRT. IMHO

of course the businesses want to SELL. but you are dead wrong if you think they are only targeting crt members. you have to create interest and expand your base if you are crt. thats all.
you make money off selling to people on the internet? wow imagine that. kind of think thats most of us in business if we have any clue.
maybe take a step back for a moment and ask yourself how a site like this expands its base.
because thats all they are trying to do.

wall to wall advertising in strip clubs - mainly clubs that have direct flights (LA, FL, TX, GA...)

Just my 2 cents

This is not a joke. Wall to Wall advertising sells ad space in public restrooms all over the US. Was started by a friend of mine 20+ years ago. I thought he was crazy but he has made a fortune. CRT's target market is strip clubs, swingers and dating services (yes it is true). I spoke with admin 3 - while I may not agree with him on the FB idea (I do not use it much anyway) - CRT thinks it is a good way to communicate. LA is right (OMG I can't believe I said that - it hurt a little) - If you don't agree - just don't like it.

EXACTLY!!! You know, when I find myself conflicted, be it business decisions, moral dilemmas, or what have you, I often ask myself this question: What WOULD Cuba Dave do??? He is like my North Star, my guiding light through this big, crazy adventure we call life!

8ball - many of us agree with your sarcasm and embrace it.

Admin 3, I received your PM warning me to STFU and that if you wish for my input you will send me a PM requesting it. I understand. It's your domain and you can do with it as you please. I've been only a customer who has been trying to get your attention that you are no longer delivering what this customer wants. You have made your point of view very clear. Bueno Suerte.

Aren't the only people that make money off social media marketing those that hype it, promote it and charge businesses for it? As a FB user and consumer I have NEVER clicked on a FB ad or patronized any business because some friend "Liked" a page. Not saying businesses shouldn't have an FB page but the idea that they need to tap into social media to grow and get more customers just seems like a myth to me.

The new Admin doesn't give a shit about the members he already has. He knows we've paid our $99 for our lifetime memberships & will never see another dime from us. So, he goes in a different direction, despite our protests.

cue the music-
sing it Dandy Don-
"Turn out the lights, the party's over"

True, seems the new admins should realize we are the frequent travelers that still support the board sponsors every trip and the ones that can provide valuable content. Sure they want new member dues but should not toss us aside since we still visiting and might drop a couple grand per trip.

Some food for thought-
Quote:
How Do I Take Better Care of the Attention I Have?

A few years ago I dreamed of becoming “famous” by interviewing the most successful people because I thought they would share my interviews. That didn’t happen. The audience only started to grow when I focused on how to make my content as valuable as possible for the people who were already there, even if there were only a few of them. This is how audiences and readers turn into tribes and communities. I think we should abandon all of the following questions

How do I get more traffic
How do I get m more eyeballs
How do I grow my audience

Diminishing those who spend their valued attention with you to nothing but metrics and measurements is tragic. ALWAYS remember that there is a human being on the other end of the screen. Whether you’re selling widgets or e-books, you have people and tribe members, not buyers, listeners, or an audience. If we can start to see the world through this lens, which requires a leap of faith, I believe the metrics will take care of themselves.
