I've encountered many reputable establishments, in the States and elsewhere, that put restrictions, limits and other burdens on the use of credit cards.
The card processors are catching GREED FEVER, like so many other segments of the worldwide economy........think airlines, hotels, and banks with all of their surcharges for what used to be basic services.
Everybody wants to increase the bottom line, even card processors. This GREED FEVER makes it more expensive to do business with the greedy ones under certain circumstances.
I have very few principals

, but one of my principals is to avoid fees for financial services. I have yet to pay 5 cents for a disclosed fee for a financial service. It's great when the fees are disclosed, so that we can use alternative methods to get what we want. Disclosing in TWO ways is even better.
When the U.S. congress finally mandated, about 2 years ago, that credit card issuers more fully disclose fees and interest rates, your credit card bill took on a wholly different appearance because a lot of the hidden, unintelligible stuff was displayed in a clean, understandable manner......with no extra cost to the card companies. The card issuers vigorously fought those changes in the law.......but they lost. And we won. We are bamboozled now with credit card fees only if we deserve it.
